Swiss 1896 ammo question

I have read many times that it is not safe to shoot GP11 or modern ammo in a Swiss model 1896, So what can you shoot in it? Handloads, blackpowder cartridges, Can you even buy bullets for them from someone? If you have one are you stuck with a wallhanger? Is there any published trustworthy loading data for them?

thanks, that answered all my questions. Its nice to know if I run across a nice 1896 that I can shoot it with some handloads.
