schmidt rubin 1911 help me out

hey everyone i just acquired a sporterized 1911, it didnt have the bolt or the magazine. so i already purchased a new bolt for it and ill be getting the mag asap. i actually didnt know much about it till i got it home and looked things up about it. according to serial number it was made 1919 and its indeed a 1911 also has the proper front and rear sights too. my true question here is did they ever alter these guns while in military use maybe did they ever try to convert the 1911 to k11 size. the barrel length is exactly the size of the k11 but everything else shows that its a 1911. the barrel must have been cut back but the crown is perfect. overall length is about an inch longer than the k11 also. im just wondering if this was cut back and sported by a civilian or was it done this way by the military arsenals.

I doubt if they were tweaked while it was in service. But can you post pics? How did it fire?

I've a sportered 1911 also. It has no import markings, so I suspect it was one of the many that hit our shores back in the '60s. I bought it because of the beautiful tiger striped walnut stock and excellent condition. I'm suprised these rifles weren't more popular than they were, being as accurate as they are.

Got any pics?

First thing to check is the caliber. If the crown is original and the barrel is shorter it could very well be a Golden State conversion to .308.
Check the side of the rear sight or the barrel back just under the rear sight for a .308 stamp.
The Swiss never, ever changed to a profile like that. Its definiteley an importer change, and if it is a .308 conversion, it's going to be a very accurate rifle with the right load.
No k11's were ever modified. All of them began as 1911's.

Also check for 4 tapped holes on the left side of the receiver.
