Where to buy a K31

None of the Gun Stores in my area carry K31's. Looking for opinions on what online retailers are known for good rifles at decent prices. I typically don't like to buy a gun unless I can handle it take a look at it but I don't think I have much of a choice.

Anyone on here from Michigan know of a store that sells K31's please let me know.

Thanks

Sorry for the double post. I posted one this morning from my phone and I didn't see it so I posted the question again.

Always check with your local gun shops. I got mine by chance just by stopping in and the shop had one in on consignment. Very nice and accurate rifle with the history behind my particular K31 that has been told to me through the soldier I contacted from the troop tag. Also see if a local FFL dealer can order one for you. Simpsons Ltd. in Illinois has many K31's, K11's, 1911s and the sort for sale. See if your local FFL dealer would order one for you for an extra small fee.

Thank you Chris61289 for the response. I found one on Michigan Gun Owners forum for $225. The owner has refinished the stock and it does not come with a troop tag. I would really like to have the troop tag when I buy one. That really brings a lot of history of the gun out as you discovered.

Sure can't help you locally, but SAMCO has them. Liberty Tree Collectors had some but look sold out. There's always GunBroker, Guns America, and AuctionArms.

Samco is your best bet for an affordable K31...they, unfortunately, have cracks in the stocks. For the price though it seems like a good deal. You can always repair the cracks or restock the rifle with a boyds replacement stock.
The k31's seem to be eleusive on the open market.

I paid $225 for mine in somewhat original condition, mine is a '41 mfg rifle, but has a August 1953 dated Beechwood stock and not a walnut stock. But the serial number in the stock and handguard matches my rifle, so I'm sure the original stock was badly damaged and replaced when it was rearsenaled.

Since he's refinished it and taken much of the collecter value from it, I would try offering him $200 just so I wouldn't want to insult him. It all depends on how the metal finish is as well. Not to mention the obvious bore and crown condition.

Check out this site Simpson Ltd. - Collectors Firearms - Simpson Ltd. - Collectors Firearms and see with a local dealer about possibly ordering one. I'm all the way on the east side of Michigan, north of Detroit, and while pickins aren't slim for milsurps around here, they sure are for K31's. Only ever seen one and that's the one I got. Never saw any at a gun show before.

Check out the pictures. Dose this look like a good buy from what you can tell from the pictures. I know I need to check out the rifling etc...

Except a minute inspection of my SAMCO K31 "cracked stock" revealed no cracks that I could detect.

I think they put that disclaimer on there website as a "Justin Case" scenerio; I find it hard to believe all of'em have cracked stocks.

How does that bolt handle work? Is it a rotating bolt? I've never seen a K31 but sure am thinking about getting one.

Thanks for everyone's help. I ended up buying this one tonight. It was even better looking in person. The seller even threw in 3 boxes of GP11. Can't wait to shoot her.

From the pictures, it looks like a decent stock refinish job. As long as it doesn't have runs or brush marks in the finish (aka "Bubba"), I think you did OK. I've never seen one with a bad bore or messed up receiver; they were truly built like a Swiss watch! I've got about 4-5 K-31's, in Beech wood and Walnut, and they are all awesome shooters.
I've noticed that in recent years there are very few advertised by wholesalers anymore so I guess the MIL-Surp supply has pretty much dried up. Now, if I see one at a gun show or pawn shop, I grab it! You done good!

My gunsmith apparently didn't see any when I sent it to him for a headspace check and make sure it was safe to fire.

It's a 'straight-pull' system, the bolt handle pulling straight back, and a camming system rotates the bolt-head. Makes scoping fairly easy as no bolt handle interference to worry about.

Yeah, I got to handle one yesterday and think it would be a pretty easy pull.
Similar in function to the 1895 Steyr.
The lgs had a hefty price.

I have two Steyrs, and just bought a 3rd because they are almost a cheap as Mosin Nagants. But believe me, that Swiss bolt is SO much smoother and easier to cycle.
