| Rifle shoots high
I bought a K-31 from Wideners, it's in good condition, not great. I took it to the shooting range today for the first time. It shoots 7" high at 100 yards, consistently. Why? How can I fix this? I can only adjust elevation up, not down. Please help me to understand and fix the problem. |

I'm betting that like most battle rifles of that era, the K-31 was sighted in at 300 yards (or meters), and therefore shoots high at 100 yards. It's the nature of the beast. I just went looking, and taller front sights are available for it. You'll probably need to file one down a bit at a time, until it shoots where you want it. Tennessee Gun Parts has them here: http://www.tngunparts.com/k312.htm I'm sure the guys who know K-31's will be making an appearance soon;; I'm just filling in until they get here. |

Thanks troy2000 for helping me out. I just ordered a taller sight blade through the link that you posted, I guess the gun shooting high must be a common problem.

What kind of ammo were you shooting? Both of my K31s shoot right on at 100 yds. That is interesting. But it sounds like you ought to be all right with the taller front sight.

I was shooting PRVI Partisan and GP11 military ammo from the gun show, same as they have at samco Welcome to Samco Global Arms, Inc.. I also had another shooter try my gun to see if it was my aim, all shot high. I don't understand why this is a common issue with this rifle. I'll wait and see what happens when I get the new sight.

There supposed to be right on at 100 but they shoot 10" high when set at 300 and this is in the manual. I converted my pfd manual to text and this is what it says, 70 At distances in excess of 300m, it is necessary to aim at the bottom of the target; less than 300m, aim at the center or just at the bottom (See Appendix II, tables 4 and 5). Figs. 32 & 33

I have 3 K31's and they all shoot high with gp11 ammo, about 5-6 inches high. I compensate for it, but a taller front sight would be nice. I think I read somewhere that .040 of an inch will change your POI by about 6 inches. I might try to come up with something simple to slide over my sight to raise it.

I have a K31,and it is right on the money at 100 yards. It is not really a common problem, maybe your rear sight is not all the way down for some reason or another. Good luck with it.Jason |

My Swiss Miss shoots pretty much dead on at 100 yards, but what I have done with other high-shooting milsurps is to put a dab of JB Weld on the top of the front sight blade and file it to blend it in and adjust it to hit the bull - gives the sight some extra height and the dark grey color matches worn blueing pretty well.
