K31!

Awhile back, it was mentioned that J&G, Wideners, and SAMCO all have K-31s in stock. I wanted one, and decided to bite the bullet and buy one from Widener's which was the cheapest, even though not many people had experiences with them. The cost was $206 total, and I am pretty happy with what I got. The stock was beat the hell up, especially around the butt, which is pretty typical I guess. I'm not an expert, but the bore looks real nice. Blueing is off on the sling clips and around the muzzle, but great on the barrel.
They didn't offer hand pick or troop tag options, but it came with one. Looks like it was issued to a guy from Tann. Numbers on receiver, bolt and magazine match, I can't find one on the stock or a date but I need to look closer. Anyone know where to find it? There's a "50" under the buttplate, maybe 1950. Serial is 2185XX.
As you can see one of the cats was interested in it, although maybe not as much as me. Now I need to pick up some GP11 or something and try it out.
Edit: Looks like it's 1953 according to here.

Very typical to have the butt end of the stock chewed up like that on the K31s. Might be able to find numbers underneath the handguard. I think there are also some beneath the barrel on the stock. I'd have to check mine, but I thought thats where it was at. These rifles, IMO, are one of the most accurate milsurp guns you can get, and that is shooting the GP11 Swiss milsurp ammo. Its non corrosive, which is very nice. A bit pricey, but its still out there. I think you will be VERY happy with this rifle. I love BOTH of the ones I have. Excellent shooting rifles. The magazine I think will hold 6 rds.

J&G looks like the cheapest for GP11, Sportsman's guide is decent too but you need to buy at least 480. AIM has Prvi, which is tempting because it's reloadable, which I am starting to get into. It's just .308 bullets and small rifle I think? The loaded Prvi sure beats Norma brass which is >$1 per(!).

I reform .284Win brass into 7.5 Swiss - works fine! Much cheaper than Norma!
Still looking for a good .308 bullet that isn't expensive. Hornady 150 gr. FMJ works okay, but I should be able to find something closer in shape to GP11 profile - Berger 175gr. VLD is said to be best, but PRICEY!

You did well on this rifle. The S/Ns on the stock are under the hand guard and inside the stock under the action. The date under the butt plate should be something like this X 50 meaning Nov. 1950. A Roman numeral indicating the month and the year. If there is a number on top of the tang (the metal part just behind the receiver) it indicates when the rifle was arsenal refinished. "The Swiss Rifle Message Board" is a very good source of information on your rifle. Several real experts on all Swiss straight pull rifles hang out there.

Nice--I would use some GP-11 ammo you will not be sorry,then branch out from there..

The K-31 is a awesome built and shooting rifle

privy partizan rounds here in aus are $110 for 100 and we are normally about 2 times what you pay so thats sould make it as cheap any milsurp to shoot.
