No, I have not worked on any Bersa's or High points up here...The people in my area don't seem to be interested in those kind of weapons, per se,they are more into the Large bore stuff...Lots of Rugers, Smiths, Colts, Charter arms, Etc. I personally don't like the Polymer Pistols like Glocks and High points , when Several of them Have blown up when Fired at sub zero temps up here, But that is just my opinion, even knowing Glocks Reputation of reliability. A lot of times I will buy a gun just to tear it apart and inspect it and then test fire it for function and reliability...It tells me a lot more than Advertising Hype ! Rich Oh, and as for 1911's I have 2 Colts, 2 Kimbers, and a Springfield armory 1911A1 !

| My Taurus model 66 .357 magnum waited 19 years for a problem to develop. The crane screw came loose. A little loktite and it should be good for another twenty. It is also my most accurate gun I shoot, using 38 special wadcutters. It still shoots just as good as the day I bought it, and I am just guessing that I have probably put over 20k rounds through it, from the 38 WC's to full power .357 mag reloads.

Thanks Mike ! 34 years ago I started 10 years of Apprenticeship under a Master Gunsmith in Florida before I bought Him out and went on my own as well as working in machine shops and buying and collecting guns has really paid off learning weapons Technology. I'm still learning every day by researching new Technology and every time I get to put my hands on a new or unusual weapon. There are also a lot of other well informed people on this forum that help fill in the Gaps because Nobody can really know it all, and we all can use more knowledge ...And have fun Learning it ! Rich

I bought a brand spankin new PT-92C about 15 years ago for $350. I have about 10K rnds in the ol’ girl now. Most of the time I shoot 115 Gr. factory reloads. My carry ammo is 124 Gr. Federal Hydashocks. About once a year I put a fresh dab of red paint on the front sight and shoot up the old stuff and buy all new carry ammo. This pistol is factory stock, and I’ve never had so much as a jam or FTF with it other than when I don’t get the mag seated all the way. Taurus stopped making the compact model years ago. I’ve never been able to find aftermarket grip panels for it and probable never will. I also have never regretted the money I spent on this gun. About two years ago I bought a PT-22 for a “C” note, and have about 1K rnds in that one. Again, no problems with it that were not a direct result of the mag not seated correctly or from the ammo, that is mostly inexpensive Federal or Remington bought at Wal-Mart. To sum up, my experience with Taurus products (not strictly limited to my own two pistols) has been excellent. Just my $.02 FWIW. -UR

Mooseman I've got a Mauser 1909 7.65 Argentia calvery carbine rifle, the condition of it is excellent. If I bought a 358 win barrel for the action... NOW this is really my question... Can a sporter type stock be found that the Mauser action and the new style (contour) barrel will fit or drop into the new stock. It's been a while but I think Douglas has a barrell in 358 that screws into a Mauser action and I think I saw stocks some where for Mauser actions and different barrels with certain contours. I know the head space would have to checked and I don't really want to remove and replace any of the stuff on the bolt action other than the safty. The trigger is fine for now too. I want this for my main Deer hunting rifle. Can you think of a better source for the barrell and a source for the stock? Thanks Mike P.S. I don't want you to go out of your way looking up stuff, your time is to valueble. A quick reply will do. Thanks Mike |

Mike, That will take some looking into...It would be a lot easier to use a Model 98 action as there are many many stocks available for that action and easy enough to fit just about any barrel made. The 1909 action is Different in several ways, and not many manufacturers are likely to make them due to the Higher volume of 96 and 98 Mausers used to make custom rifles...In my experience. The 7.65 Mauser is Comparable to 30/06 and a really fine cartridge, where as the 358 gives less range and bullet limitations . 7.65 cartridges are easily made from 30/06 cases !!! I Personally would keep the Carbine Mint and pickup a 98 Mauser for the action( they are cheap) with a bad barrel and build from that! it will save you time, money, and headaches in the long run! It is a 98 action and your right I should leave it a lone but I've already buthered the stock 12 years ago by removeing the wood on top of the barrell and I cut down the stock, when I determined where to cut it, I cut it at a 15 degree angle. Believe it or not I guessed pretty good when I cut it. It looks normal. It's still a shooter. Interesting to me is I've seen others say it's similar to the 30-06 and the Guns and Ammo Magizine sept 1980 says it is similar to the 308. HUMM This same magizine has a long aticle about customizing this same model of mauser with the exception that the author used the rifle version. Thanks Moose for your info, MIKe |

Scot Van you just got my attention ! Where can I go to see the stock you mentioned. I would be very happy to drop the barrell and action into another stock. As I said earlyer I like the gun as is meaning I don't care to customize the bolt other than replace the safty with a Mod 70 win style later. Sense it is a carbine (let me go measure the Barrel lenght I'll be right back lol ) Scot Van I measured from the end of the action to the tip of the barrel and it is 21 and 1/4 inchs Now 8 and 1/2 inches from from the end of the action the barrel steps down in diaamiter (need spell check).... So is this the same as the Mauser rifle version, the step down ? When you say Black stock do you mean synthetic tell me who makes it and I'll go the internet for a picture. Anyway you've got me as excited as a birddog try'en to sh_t a peach seed right now. Thanks amillion and I would like to hear if any other members are interested Or have done what I'm wanting to do..Mike |

AH... We have lots of dealers around. If you'd like, call me on my toll-free and I can put you in touch with someone who can sell you one (as the manufacturer, I don't sell our products UNLESS it is directly to active duty Law Enforcement / Military. Quote:
Mauser Riflestocks, Scope Mounts, Bolt Handles, and Accessories - Advanced Technology, Inc. Personally, if you have to replace a nice wooden stock with synthetic, this is a nice-looking solution. You won't need to modify the bolt unless you want to mount a scope, in which case we sell a replacement bolt that affords the proper clearance. SVH 1-866-472-8590 for dealer info. | |

Scot Van Thank you so much for your information, Thats an interesting looking stock, but it's not what I'm looking for. I want something more traditional along the classic style, syn or wood. I'd love to take you two to a new resturant that opened here 6 weeks ago. There speciality is Possum meat loaf, you talk about good..It's so good you'ed want to whallor in it. Thanks Mike |

I'm a Taurus revolver man. I have no experience with Taurus semi-auto's. But I do love their revolvers, so I would be willing to try semi.

My family owns a pawn shop in florida and ever since i can remember, I was told that Tarus is a junk throw away gun. Now I have been told by people I trust in the gun world that Tarus has made great improvments on their present day fire arms, but it is still a little to hard for me to get over my predjudice torwards the company. I would buy the Berreta over the Taurus. (is it still hard to find replacment parts for Tarus, I know that it used to be Tarus stopped making replacement parts after a few years for each discontinued model?)
