| Okay Taurus Lovers
Tell me why to buy a Taurus over a Beretta, other than slightly lower cost. Also, what is the difference between the 92B and the 92BNS. Inquiring minds (bored silly tonight and my earlier taurus post got me to looking at their site in detail) want to know.... :target:

I have just added the new Taurus 1911 to my collection of .45 ACPs. It isn't as great at the Wilson or the Kimbers, but it also cost about 1/4th what they did. It is a very nice gun, far superior to my Rock Island Armory!

Also, I own several other Taurus models and love them all...especially the .44 Mag Raging Bull (the only drawback is that it says 'RAGING BULL' in gigantic engraved letters on the side. | |

| The Rock Islands are Armscor. Dunno what that means because I have no experience with Armscor. The 45 Rock Is. 1911 maybe made in the Phillipines?

I would Buy the Beretta over the Taurus Any day of the week. I have worked on More Taurus Guns needing repair, but seldom have a Beretta come in for more than a cleaning . I have seen the internal machining of the Taurus guns and it SUCKS...Very rough and sloppy in a lot of cases. Beretta's on the other hand are good craftsmanship and perfect tolerances. You get what you pay for... Rich

I bought the 1911 at a gun show for $519...There is a dealer here in Lexington (KY) who has one for $500 on the shelf now. Given the specs... POLISHED FEED RAMP, LOWERED EJECTION PORT, AMBIDEXTROUS SAFETY, A BEAVERTAIL MEMORY PAD GRIP SAFETY, CUSTOM GRIP PANELS, VENTILATED TRIGGER AND HEINIES' STRAIGHT EIGHT 2-DOT SIGHTS I'm very satisfied and would only consider changing to a comp. barrel if I intended to compete with it. My next Taurus will be the Judge, which is a .45 Long/.410 five-shot revolver. Kind of a novelty item, but great for effect. And only 300 bucks! Quote:
While I love my Beretta 9mm, I paid LOTS for it and I find that the Taurus company, in trying to establish itself as a major player, has held itself to very rigid quality control standards. You're comparing the world's oldest gun manufacturer to a relatively new Brazilian company (that has never pretended to be Beretta...or Sig...or any other premium line). This 1911 by Taurus is, for the money, the best item I've seen on the market to date. The 24/7 Tactical is also very nice, but others are similarly priced and perhaps a bit more has gone into the others' development. Give Taurus a chance to grow, and I think they'll suprise you. I have had several Taurus Titanium Revolvers come in that have locked up due to internal parts jamming up or coming apart after shooting less than a box of shells and That will get you killed in a defense situation. The internal machining was rough and sloppy...I only call it as I see it. When a Brand new gun basically has major malfunctions under normal use with factory ammo, then I am suspect of the entire line of weapons...I'm not telling you not to buy whatever you want, I am relaying what I have seen from personal experience. If Beretta is good enough to pass Military tests, then it should be Great for the civilian market as well. Dependability and safety is paramount where weapons are involved. Rich

I wanted to say that ! And I agree that Taurus is focused on being a top player. They say in there catalog that they have a new state of the art facility. When I was a teenager Taurus and Llama or what ever there name was were know as cheap junk hand guns yet Taurus has stayed the course and are produceing some very appealing pistols and I don't think the price they sell them for is a indicator of quality. And most are very accurate. With the time I have on my hands at present, I've searched all over the internet for gun test reports and reviews and so far more folks love there Taurus's than dislike them. Personaly I can't justify spending the kind of money some here spend for firearms (Please don't take that wrong) So I tend to buy in the lower price ranges, Remington, Mossberg, H&R, Marlin, KelTec, Tauras and the like. On the other hand, I thank Mooseman for his comment and advice because I'll look a lot closer at them before I buy. A.H |

| Can't argue at all.
Good to take all advice into consideration. Obviously, Moose's experience is considerable and he wasn't just spouting off. Mooseman, I sure hope you know that there was no affront intended there! I was only pointing a disparity out and I really hope it didn't come across with detriment to your breadth of knowledge and skills (which clearly are greater than my own). All respect given to you. Another point before I forget...I have seen one review (scrambling to find it in the stacks of gun review magazines on my desk...may take a while) that gave the Taurus 1911 a D grade, though the article admitted that it had lots to do with the magazines that come with the gun. To date, I've fired about 300 rounds through 'er without a single jam using the same mags, so perhaps the authors got flawed product. On the other hand, they're the experts, I'm certain they had other objections I can't remember now. Suffice it to say that so far, I'm very happy and will post any negative experiences immediatley (I've no loyalty to Taurus above ANY manufacturer, so you'll know what I know when I know it). I own one Taurus, a 66 6'' 7 shot .357, a direct copy of the S&W 686. It is a great wheel gun and like it a lot, my personal protection gun actually, but I wouldn't use a Taurus auto for protection. I have been around, fired, owned, worked on lots of Taurus autos and are not impressed, lots of inconsistencies. Berettas are smooth, but I am just not a fan of the 92, not that accurate, but dependable as all he11. I had a Taurus 1911 that I had to send back to the factory twice for problems. I'll take a Springfield over both!
