| Gotta Love Early Birthday Presents!!!!!!
Woke up this morning, and mom said she had a surprise for me. I love surprises!!!!!!!!! Well, she reached over behind her purse and pulled out..... a box. But wait.... It was a Taurus box! I think I have a hunch is inside!!!!!! ![]() Taurus .38 Special!!! (Don't know the model of it, according to the serial number run through the Taurus site, it was manufactured in 2000.) Wow, what a shootin' iron! The finish is great, love the grip, and it points so naturally!!!!!! It may not be the nicest wheelgun available, but it surely is the nicest I have held in a long while! I checked out the Taurus site, and according to them, this weapon will take +P, so I rode into town and got a box of old Speer Lawman .38 +P 158gr. TMJ from the gunshop. I showed him the gun and he said that I should have no trouble with it with that ammo. Dropped $10 on the ammo, and home I came! Well, needless to say, I loved the initial "test firing". WOW, loud, but a gentle push, and it is fairly accurate even in my hands! By the way, did I tell ya, it is LOUD??? :P I am one happy guy, and my birthday isn't until the 8th!!!!!!

I called Taurus about it, and it is indeed a Model 85 so good call Jerry!!!!! Now, I am looking at some grips, speed loaders, etc. Found a nice grip like I want through Hogue for reasonable cash, still no luck on the speed loaders, yet. I love searching for goodies!

Bet she's got a safe full of guns you don't know about. Just kidding, she obviously trusts and loves you very much. Could I get her to talk to my lady? Nice Taurus. Maybe an AR for Christmas?

RR...is that a Pachameyer grip...or something original from Taurus? Regardless...that's a great gift from your mom.

TJ, is your mom willing to adopt? I don't eat much and I only take up a little room. LOL Enjoy your birthday gift.

You're killin' me! Honestly, Hogue makes a nice grip. If you ever decide you want a set of "real" grips to fit that extra pinkie finger or whatever, give me a call BTW, Give mom a hug from me, she deserves a good'un!

OK, I am not, but I do know what it means. I just don't know why I can't water the plants and kill two birds with one stone.

The first handgun I ever fired was a Charter Arms Bulldog in .38 special and I really like the way a simple .38 revolver feels. I went back to basics earlier this year when I finally bought my first revolver and made it a .357 Magnum. With the Magnum, they say you pretty much already have a .38 because it can shoot those also but it's just not the same. My heavy six-inch Smith & Wesson is built to tame the .357 and waters down the .38's a bit too much for me to really enjoy them. It's times like this when I'd love a good 4-inch .38 to give me that gentle shove you mentioned! A .38 is very comfortable and is honestly pretty fun to shoot. Handguns in moderate calibers are often louder than some expect because while they don't kick as much as some others, they are still busting out a good size bullet at considerable speed. And of course, plenty deadly enough to defend yourself with if need be. Sounds like your mom sure knows how to pick out a present! It's the epitome of practical firearms. Hope you enjoy it! |
