My smith is selling the Judge like hotcakes. I don't like 'em, but there sure are a lot of people who do.

Probably a very good way to go, I just happen to really trust the 185 Corbon +P in .45 ACP. This jacketed hollow point is rated about 1150fps, and for me, that is significant. With the 4", the XD is TINY, especially when you consider that I'm carrying 14 rounds.

Love the judge. Unfortunately, the wife likes it, too. I have to whine and complain to actually shoot it!

I have an older PT945 (45ACP) that I acquired in a multi-gun trade about 12 years ago and I have never shot it. It has a couple of nice features and I like the general looks of the pistol. Does anyone have one of these who could comment on the shooting qualities of the gun (good or not-so-good)

Thanks

Doc

Taurus haters not Taurus owners?

I've owned the M 85 and M66. Both blue and excellent guns. The model that replicates the Berreta 9mm, well the shear pin spring broke and when I closed the slide it fired and would have cleared the entire mag if it hadn't stove piped. Bought a M350 hammerless 357. After several shots of the hot 125 stuff the gun froze up tight. Had to force open with a screwdriver. Taurus told me the 125's were too hot and expanded the metal...sold it, too. Then my last nightmare. The PT745. Shot really soft for a 45. Then after 200 some rounds the mag fell out of the gun. Found the plastic mag release had worn off the tiny little tip that holds the mag in, allowing the mag to fall out. Sent to MIA, over two months it comes back. Dirty and the front sight loose as a goose. I didn't have a wrench to fit so I took it to the gunsmith at the local range. He took off the slide and with some noisy hammering brought it back with the sight all jacked up in front and he said he peened (sp?) the sight in place. Well the idiot is trying to force the slide on the frame. I tell him, dude, hold it upside down, pull the trigger and it will go into place, with some fanagling. So, he replies that "I've put hundreds of these shitty guns together" at which time we hear a "ping" and a tiny piece of metal falls on the counter. This is the cocking part of the firing pin. He says he's "sorry about that, but that there is something wrong with the gun and that all Millinimum's are POS's and I need to send it back and demand a new gun". He also said I wouldn't have to pay for him to "fix" the front sight. So, I called MIA two weeks ago. They felt sorry for me and said they'd ship a firing pin to me. Called today, "it's in the works but hasn't been shipped yet". I'm at wit's end with these guns, but I can't afford a $1000 sig or whatever.

As an asside: I have a Mod 68 Rossi 38 snubbi and a KelTec 380. Both are cheap and have never missed a beat.....period. Maybe I don't need that big 45 to protect myself afterall.....

Thank you for your first hand account of your experiences with Taurus products. As I have said before, reading all the reports by shooters and gunsmiths, and listening to the dealers who tell me why they will no longer carry them...I firmly believe that quality control at Taurus is inconsistent. Since many have written about their Taurus handguns in glowing terms, and others have damned them, one can only come to the conclusion that QC is inconsistent. Personally, I would not pay hundreds of dollars on this kind of crap shoot.

As far as needing a .45 for protection...I saw a nice older S&W Model 10 for $229 at my local dealer. Something like that with +p's would make me very happy if I needed a gun!

Sorry, but after having so many in to work on over the years, I just won't bet my life on one...Period.

Well let me see. In year 19 I had to replace a $2.50 spring. In year 20, I had to loktite the crane screw when it came loose. It is the absolute best shooting revolver I own, and I put some warp speed home loads through in those twenty years. I would ABSOLUTELY trust my life with this revolver. Who needs customer service if you never need customer service?

The millinium Pro line has a model called the PT140. It's a 40 cal. I have the PT145 (45 cal). It has turned out to be quite the shooter. I am very happy with it. It just dosn't like Wolf ammo to well.
I just picked up a pt 145, for some reason when the last shot fires it does not hold slide open. I thik it may be the slide catch spring, do you know if your slide catch is under tension, mine is not. any info appreciated, thanks.

my other Taurus is a pt99 and I love it. It has never malfunctioned and I have shot a varity ammo through it, wolf, s&b, wwb, just picked up some Remington but I am confident it will shoot fine as well. I guess it is just like any product some people are Ford people and some prefer Chevy or Dodge.

As an example, here is the best group I EVER shot with my Taurus. One full box of fifty rounds at twenty feet on my 19 year old gun with the iron sights. BOOYAH!

Brazil has quite fine gun manufacturing facilities. I just read an American gun writers reporter of viewing the Taurus facilities and him saying how impressed he came out being. Don't think just because it says made in America is makes it the best. Not that the majority of my guns aren't made in America. I have two Taurus's made in Brazil. And one FN made in Belgium. And I happen to like all three of them. Not sure if my Sig P229 is totally made in the US, or just put together in the US using European parts. And my Dan Wesson is made in the US, but is owned by CZ. The only rifle I own that isn't US made is a Saiga, which is Russian. But who better to buy an AK type of weapon from?

I own three Smith and Wesson revolvers and one Taurus. The Smith and Wesson's are definitely better, but the Taurus ain't bad. I carry it daily. My only beef with them is their service. It took two months to find out they weren't going to send me a spring, they'd have to put it on order or I could send the revolver in. I bought a set of generic springs from Wolff, got it in days, and had the revolver back working again.

By the way, I bought the Taurus and all but one Smith used, a good old American gun shop made the money. Buy used and support your local economy.

I know in NC, and I am not sure if it is an ATF thing, if you pawn your gun then you must get a permit to get it back.
Wait it doesn't go to SA. It goes to Miami.
Here it is explained: Taurus International Manufacturing Inc

wouldn't it be the same as shipping a gun to highpoint? i shipped mine to them and they rebuilt it and shipped it right back to my house.

Whew...had to take a hiatus. Busy season for me. I got my Model 608 (8 shot .357 Magnum) last week. I'll post pics once I get home, but at 10 yards the first two shots went about 3 inches to the left of the 10, but the next 6 were right in there (I think I need to adjust the sights a little). I managed to stack a few shots. It's not quite a cloverleaf, but it was the first time I'd fired it.

I then put about 150 rounds of .357 Magnum through it and then 50 .38 wadcutters. No problems yet. Action's smooth, once I adjust the sights it'll be plenty accurate without having to compensate.

The only minor-minor thing I noticed is that when I push the extractor rod, some of the spent shell cases stick just a tiny bit, needing to be shaken or tapped to fall free, but that seemed to be clearing up as I fired it more and the cylinder was subjected to the forces of the rounds. I imagine another 200 rounds or so and they'll just slip right out.

I will also say, the ported barrel makes recoil negligable. It's like firing a .38 with the .357 Magnums, and with the .38s, it's practically like a .22.

No It wouldn't Tommy. Shipping the gun to South America would require all kinds of paperwork for sending the gun out of the country.

Have to say I still have my PT-99-AF from 1989 with at least 20,000 rounds thru it and just 2 years ago I broke the locking block..Send it to Taurus, in Florida, and with no questions asked send me a new one...55cent to ship...no cost to me returned...Going this weekend to blast some fish... We had a fish kill here in S. IL. ......Stinks like *&$(@.. Gonna blast some Bass....At least another 500 will be shot...By the way I use BrianEnos Slide Glide all the time...Harder to clean but WOW! makes the diff in wear...I still have no play with aluminum frame after all this time.Tight!!....But I did just get a SA XD-9 ...I wanted tack rail for a laser site and got a great deal...any good suggestions on laser sights? Just looking into them now....

Taurus steel is softer and more crude than american steel, I have enjoyed the success of the PT92 and is a nice gun, I might be wrong but i think Taurus states on their site you must pay shipping to Miami to the repair station.
