I am extremely happy with my Taurus 24/7 PRO 45 acp. Never had a problem at all out of it. Fired everytime with no glitches, no jams, not even a single misfire.

Wish I could say the same for my semi-expensive Dan Wesson Razorback. Of course all I fire is reloads, and that could have a bearing on it. ![]()

| I know a lot of people who have Taurus guns. On my short "Wanted" list are three of their .22 stainless rifles. Model 62 pump Model 62 lever Model 63 auto Wish they would make a small .22 pistol like the old S/W "Kit Gun" but I'd like at least a 4" barrel in case I want to actually hit something. | Gandog, I love classic Winchester .22 rifles but the collector market has all but priced them out of my range so the Taurus copies of the Winchesters are really tempting. I bought a Rossi model-59 copy of a Winchester model-62 pump years ago and did shoot it a little but need to find a firing range so I can use it again. It's a sheer delight to carry, balance is perfect. Taurus picked up the Rossi .22 line and they are available in both blued or stainless finish. Check out the Taurus website. If you like old Winchesters you'll fill up a wish list quickly. Their model-62 lever was never actually made by Winchester but the Taurus design is a modification of the model-62 pump. Beautiful lines and I'm dying to get my hands on one. Now if they would only make a copy of the classic model-61 pump. |

Mooseman hit the nail right on the head! About ten years ago ,I broke down and bought my first Semi-Auto, A Taurus PT-908. What a mistake,After some research ( don't believe every thing you read in the gun magazines)I decided on the PT908. I went to the range, with several brands of 9MM ammo,Winchester,Remington,MagTech. etc. I tried to shoot this brand new gun and could only get it to fire ,no more than three rounds, before I jamed,(failure to extract) I returned to the gun shop ,from which I purchaced it,and was told .I needed to return it to the repair shop in Miami Fla. I shipped it to Miami, and about six weeks later it was returned to me,with a letter discribing, the work that was performed. later that week at the range again ,I tried to shoot the PT908 again! SAME PROBLEM. Shipped it back to Miami,They repaired it,and shipped it back to me ,again with a letter explaining the repairs that were made,AGAIN I tried to shoot this boat anchor, and again ,Failure to extract, This gun was advertized as a Compact Combat Auto! needless to say that piece of junk was sold at a great loss! With the money I got from selling the Taurus,I bought a Glock 23,I have fired somewhere around 7000 rounds through the 23,and never had a FTF, FTE, or smoke stack! I'll never buy another Taurus product again! I know some of you love your Taurus handguns. Some people swear by them ! I swear at them!

There seems to be a big difference between their revolver quality and their semi quality. Like I said, a now about 22 year old revolver that still shoots one hole groups after literally 10's of thousands of rounds including some shall we call them, very warm .357 mag reloads can't be a badly manufactured gun.

Taurus' wbsite says they are coming out with a tactical line in addition to their 24/7 OSS pistol line but they didn't say what the addition is. Could Taurus be getting into the AR15 market? Nahhhhhhhhh. Not trying to start rumors but I do wonder what the line will be.

I own 4 Taurus guns. A 24/7 Pro SS .40 and a PT140 Mill. Pro SS .40 3rd gen.,Tracker .44 4" a .38 lite. All have been great guns and never have had a FTF or a FTF out of either auto. Sometimes problems can be traced to the owners or ammo, esp. on autos and the cleaning and lube process. The Ms. and I used the 24/7 to take our CCL test and out of all the guns that day S&W, Glock, HK's ours was the only one that did not have a FTF. Figure that one out Taurus haters.

I have a PT1911 and it is my second Taurus. I had a PT111 and loved it too. I think they make great guns despite the negative press. I think all the negativity comes from a rocky history, but they seem excellent now.

I have two autos and they both are fine shooters with no problems. My PT-58 I've had for nearly 20 years and have put mucho rounds through it, the other is a PT-99 I've had for 12 years. I don't really care for the newer models though. Prefer my 99 to that Beretta POS the military issued to me...same design, different materials. Yeah, I'd like to have one of their Colt Lightning clones in 45LC...what a weapon! Last edited by oldjarhead; 11-18-2007 at 02:18 AM.

Some autos just get tetchy when you don't keep them clean. Not everything can be as durable as an AK-47. I myself have had FTF on a rented HK MP5 on more than one occasion, even when the selector was set for single shot because it was gunked up and wouldn't finish cycling and ejecting the spent rounds. They promised they'd give it a thorough cleaning. I had to help one of my neighbors clear a nasty jam in an AR-15 (I forget which manufacturer) a few months ago. The ejection port was shut and the bolt was just stuck like glue. I had to tamp the stock on the ground, hard, to loosen it, and still needed to slip a rod from one of his black-powder guns down the barrel to shove the spent casing loose from the chamber because there was so much residue in there. Some firearms can obviously deal with a lot less maintenance than others. I myself like stripping cleaning a gun after taking it out, every time, but it's not always necessary. My wife's Ruger P90 doesn't need it every time, but she does it, anyway. - Coeloptera | |
