| Senior Member | What do you have? I'm still loving my Model 608. No problems yet, closing in on 300 rounds (I know, but it's dark by the time I get out of work and I was at work for 22 days in December, 11-14 hours, going out Saturday with that and my new shotgun). - Coeloptera |

| Senior Member | For the moment, my Taurus is the ONLY gun I have... though not the first I've ever shot... used to go out shooting with my dad, and of course there was my brief time qualifying for the M-16 in the Air Force. Anyway, I have the 1911, and I am loving it. There's only one problem I've had with it, and I'm pretty sure it was due to a defective cartridge... I cocked it, and it jammed trying to chamber it... repeatedly. I ejected it, and it shot through the rest just fine. Sad thing is that it was a pricey Speer Gold Dot Hollow-point... It went through 150 Blazer Brass rounds with no problem immediately before that in that same trip to the range. |

For 340 bucks its a great point and shoot self defense pistol (i wanted something uncomplicated for my wife to use when I was not home) Although its a bit of a handful w/357 , its perfect for her with 38+p. BOOOO to all the naysayers, its a good gun |

| Member | I bought the same pistol in 1990. I had problems with the crane not locking up,sent it to Miami in 2002 and they repaired it free along with their test target that had three inch groups(sandbagged) at 20 yards. hell, I coulnd't do better. For the past two years, the mag cases were getting harder and harder to extract, impossible without a punch. Although I couldn't tell with a mic, I believe the cylinder bores were out of spec causing case ballooning! I sent the pistol back yesterday, should arrive in Miami on the 14.I'm hoping they will replace the cylinder free Will post on the results! As far as I am concerned, they do back up their warranty. | Super Moderator ![]() | Who would refer to the Taurus as a POS -- the quality is far better than any SMUT and Wesson that was ever made and the warranty far surpasses that of S&W. To me you pay half the price and get a far better gun than many of the other companies. I have a Taurus 2" 357 and I will only buy Taurus revolvers over Smith and now another main reason was that S&W signed on with Klinton many years back.

| Member | Taurus Hater/Lover I bought a Taurus PT940 a few months ago. Why I do not know except the price seemed right. Several times I have been almost ready to put it through the metal grinder. Why? It came with 2 magazines. Magazine # 1, perfect, ten rounds rapid fire, no problem. Magazine # 2. After one or two rounds it would eject, and then again and again. sometimes 4 times in a ten round volley. My dealer gave me a new magazine in an unopened package. Same scenario. I sent it back to Taurus, they sent me a new one. Guess what, same problem. Getting rather mad I decided to give Taurus one more chance, and returned the Magazine with a rather criptic note. Three weeks later I received another new, in package magazine from Taurus. Hey, this one works perfectly. Yesterday I pumped 50 shots rapid fire with no problem, switching magazines ever 10 rounds. All of a sudden I like my Taurus, but why did I have yo go through this agravation? |

Don't let Mooseman read this, or be prepared for 9000 reasons a Taurus sucks. And all us owners who LIKE theirs must be crazy. Last edited by gandog56; 01-07-2008 at 10:22 AM. | |

| Senior Member | 9mmfan- my brother, who owns two GLOCKs (a 9mm and a .45), is even a little jealous of my Taurus 1911... well, until it comes to cleaning time. A GLOCK is a lot easier to disassemble and reassemble than any 1911. |

| Senior Member | So is my FN Hi Power, and my Sig P229, but I would still rather hit the BG with a .45 than a 9mm or 40 cal. |

| Senior Member | Who can argue with the pistol that practically defines the .454 Casull round? Most people I know associate those two very closely, or am I off base here? I will say, Taurus large-frame revolvers seem (to me) to handle recoil much better than most S&Ws I've fired in the same calibers. I also find them very comfortable to hold. They don't feel bulky. Big, but not bulky. - Coeloptera |

| Senior Member | Well, when I first went to the gun store where I ended up getting my Taurus, I knew little about guns. I'd been out shooting with my dad in the past, and I'd qualified on M-16 in the military... and that's about it. So, I went in there knowing a couple things about what I wanted... I figured a 9mm with a nice sleek tactical look to it. So, I started browsing in there and asked about some of the guns. Then I saw a brand I hadn't heard of before... Taurus, of course. The owner of the shop told me that some of the cops here had bought the 1911 model, had fired something like 1,200 rounds through them without cleaning it once, and still had no problems. That got my attention. I asked if I could hold it, and it had a wonderful solid feel to it... like it had been made for my hand. Within the week, I put down my deposit to get it on layaway, and within three months, I was happily taking it home. And after taking it out shooting and putting a few hundred rounds through it, still happy as hell with it. |
