| I don't know anything about the Taurus 1911. The only Taurus I own is the PT92 in S.S. It's also the only Taurus I have ever shot. It's made stronger than the Beretta 92FS. A thicker slide and frame. So far it's been one of the best handguns I have ever owned. Most people say that simi-autos need a break in period, mine didn't. I have shot 300 rounds right out of the box, so far and not a jam or mis-fire.

Same here with my 1911... only one jam, but that was because of the bullet, not the gun. It jammed on that same bullet more than once, but was fine once I said "screw it" and ejected the damn thing.

| I sure hope you folks are right about Taurus being a good product...
I sure hope you folks are right about Taurus being a good product because I just laid out nearly a thousand bucks buying two new Judge Ultra Lites that I haven't even shot yet. I'm not qualified to judge the metallurgy, but the design seems sound. The fit and finish is equal to if not better than any S&W, Colt or Ruger product I ever had. A lifetime warranty is only as good as the company backing it, but I sure like what I see so far. I'll keep the group posted if I have trouble. A friend of mine in Arizona has two on order and one is ready for him to pick up today with the other one still backordered. As time goes on, I'll post his experience too. |

Wish I had a picture of my 1911 with CT Laser Grips. Alas, my camera bit the big one.

| Wow.
Well, that's sure scary. In your opinion, did the barrel threads break off leaving a portion in the receiver, or did the barrel threads strip out in the receiver, or what do you think happened? I can't tell from the photo if there are still some threaded metal inside the receiver or not. Would you care to share your experience with their Customer Service dept? |

| Me too.
Me too. I've owned a lot of guns and the only problem I've ever had with any of them was some special heavy handloads in .45 LC shaking the scope loose on a Thompson Contender. But I've never owned any Taurus products until now when I've bought two new Judge's which I haven't had a chance to fire yet, and a used Taurus model 85 in .38 Special with a bobbed hammer I just bought last week. So far from what I've read it seems like if you are going to have trouble with a Taurus it happens early on indicating quality control problems to me. I hope he will give us more information. Never happened to me before. Last edited by Shotgun Willie; 02-01-2008 at 05:27 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I am very suspicious, especially the way he wrote the post.No real story.I can see threads that indicate it didnt fly off.I delt with Taurus several times with no problems, but once I sent them a M60 with two chambers expanded that I bought used,it was a six shot. They sent a brand new seven shot back. samuel.

Willie, can't wait to hear your reaction to the Judge. I have shot about everything you can shoot through mine with no problems. Including +P rounds ( which I have found out since, there is a disclaimer not to use ). It is fun, efficient and accurate. I have three Taurus's and had no problems. You can have problems with any fire arm, but so far Taurus has been great. I to am curious about PAshooters post, like more info.... ![]() ***************************************************** All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing |

Sorry, I wasn't here when you guys got on. The barrel broke at the threads. I wish I could explain more. I probably have less experience than you'all and am unsure exactly what happened. I was using factory remington .357 loads. I'll be happy to answer anything I can. It was kinda scary but now I'm just mad at Taurus for how they are handling the warranty. I can't post any more pictures till monday but there are a few more close up shots. I will do that on Monday. It is odd, every person at the rang and every other person I have mentioned it to, says they have never heard of a gun doing that. My bad luck apparently. Full story: Brand new gun. Did as thorough a check as I can. Cleaned out the excess oil. Made sure the barrel lined up perfectly. Loaded up with .38 spec rounds. Fired as expected. 8 more .38's and all was good, nice gun. loaded up with .357 Mag ammo, on the 4th shot, a violent jerk feel. The barrel came off and was all the way down range. A look into the chamber after it was unloaded and the alignment is now off. I've spoken to Customer service once a week since I sent it to Miami and every week the "managers" are away and will be back in a week or so. They will review it then and take care of the problem. I did think and expect, based on the circumstances, they would jump on it and take care of me. But it seems my gun has been put in line with all other warrenty claims. When I posted my first note, I just got off the phone with customer service and was (and still am) very frustrated. Mango: that's not good. definitely try to avoid powder burn. Most things I hear about Taurus are good. Unfortunately, I got very unlucky with the product but I guess I'm lucky I still have a hand. Maybe that's overstating it, though. Now I believe you are lejit. What I dont understand is you say the barrel broke at the threads.I can see the threads and they look okay.Did it strip the threads out of the frame? The only thing I had happen similar was a colt that was out of time and the bullet hit the forcing cone and cracked it.There was a crack in the bottom but hte bullet went out.One thing I was wondering, you say you were shooting .38,s.Did all of those function right?Could one have lodged?I wouldnt get too nervous about Taurus, they will get there, probably just one of those chain of command things. You can bet since they have it you will never find out what happened.Next time weld the barrel to the frame before you start shooting.Just joking. sam.
