| Why did I buy this M605 - .357 - 3" barrel?
Hello to All! I just found this forum and like the looks of it with some interesting people and great info too. I haven't owned a handgun for many years and thought it was way past time. Wanted one that I could conceal in my front pants/shorts pocket and go hiking in the mountains. I really really liked the 65/66 models but felt that the medium frames might be pushing it for what I wanted. I ended up buying the M605 3" barrel in stainless (should arrive in next few days). I am hoping that the extra inch barrel will still be short enough to carry in my pocket and that it would target better due to the extra length. The more I think about it I am wondering if I am right in my thinking. I notice that there isn't much customer feedback on the 3" barrel and am thinking that it isn't as popular for carry due to its longer barrel. Does anyone agree that the longer sight distance means more accuracy. I think another reason that I bought it with a longer barrel is because it looks way cool (LOL). Any thoughts on this impulsive purchase appreciated? TIA |

I purchased a Taurus 445 a couple of years and my only choice was 2" for .44 spl. I really would have preferred 3". Let us know what you think after you have used the gun for awhile.

I just looked at my copy of the Taurus catolog and I would love to have one. It is a small frame revolver, so enjoy it, it should conceal nicely. A.H

Thanks guys for info... Hope to receive it within a day or two through FFL dealer and then off to the range to see how it handles. Hoping to put some 38 spl, +P, and light .357s through it to see which round matches up best with it. Still no word of any kind on a "pocket holster" for a three inch J-frame so am thinking that it will require either some kind of modification to an existing holster or ordering a special made-to-order one. -Thanks again! |

I used to have an IWB holster for my SP-101 that was open at the bottom that would do nicely for a 3". And the price isn’t bad either. Galco holsters; Holsters; Gun holster, pistol holsters, western holsters, shoulder holsters, leather holster and Glock holsters -UR

I personally use the 605 as my CCW. I haven't had any problems whatsoever, and it has been a great little gun.

I too have the 605. I think you will find that the fixed sights are regulated for the 158gr bullet weight. At least that is what I've found!! As for holsters, try fitting it to a holster for any 3" barrel Smith J-frame. I've not heard of any specifically for the 3" 605!!! Most, if not all are for the 2" barrel!! You might try the DeSantis Nemisis. It's a decent pocket holster.

Uncle Red... Thanks for the link. I will check it out. Still looking for a pocket holster if I can find one. Hey 338WinMag - Hope you don't mind me asking you some questions.....Seeing that you actually have this revolver can you tell me what rounds work well with it for you and how accurate it is? I am assuming that you have the 2" barrel. Are you using the stock grips that come with it? Is the double action a long pull? How do you carry it? -TIA Denfoote... I contacted DeSantis Nemisis and they replied that it wouldn't work with the 3". I think I am going to put in an order with Robert Mika who makes some pocket holsters and seems to have a pretty good reputation from what I have read. As far as ammo goes, you say the fixed sights are regulated for the 158gr bullet weight which is probably fine for me. Does your 605 shoot pretty accurate as say 17 yards or so? How does the gun hold up with .357 loads? I never had a handgun with "fixed sights" before and am wondering how you would go about correcting your POI.... then again with a small frame like this one I guess all you are probably looking for is point and shoot... :~) -thanks for the help! I don't know if the extra inch will make the gun inherently more accurate, but it will give you a longer sight radius to help from your end of the equation.

The first thing I would do is buy some loctite and do the screws on the side!!! Believe me, it will save you some headaches!! Aside from that, the gun will hold up, the question is will your hand???!!! I'm assuming you have the boot grips, which are the new stock furniture on the 605!! Mine is just little bit older and has the longer combat grips installed. For the life of me I can't understand why Taurus went to the shorter grip!!

I love my 3" 605. It shoots to POA with 125 gr .38 spl +P's and fits nicely into a Uncle Mike's size 2 holster. It is my first choice for carry in the woods when I go camping, fishing, hunting, etc. The DA trigger pull in stiffer than I would like, but you can "stage" the trigger. I like that feature. |
