I've not had any problems with either Federal, Remington, or Winchester rifled slugs in mine. (although I haven't found a place for them except they're fun to shoot with alot of blast out of the Muzzle). Even my Ultralite hasn't had any problems.

Buckshot has worked fine too; the winchesters have no problems. S&B are sometimes a bit tight to load and extract due to the fluted sides and (I think) somewhat more oversize shells.

After reading that so many of you are not having the problem with slugs that I am, I guess I got bad ammo or a bad GUN.

My Win. 000 B finally arrived. I fired some in my Judge. No sticking shells or tied cyl. here! At 10', the target looked like Swiss cheese, even after 1 shot. I fired 3 all told. I like this load in this gun!
Now, if my 45 LC ammo will get here........

The grip makes it comfortable to shoot, but if you relax your grip a might, the rear of the trigger guard wants to smack the top finger on the grip. With a good firm grip there is no problem. The 6 1/2" barrel holds the load together longer than they show in their video with the 3" of course, but you can definitely reach out and touch someone with .45LC rounds. So I think it is the best of two worlds, close in with .410 shot rounds and distance with the 45's. Fun gun that won't fit in your pocket, but rides well in a shoulder rig or in the car. All in all if you like something a little different and useful it will fill the need.

You mentioned carry of a shoulder holster for your 6.5 Judge. What
type/brand if any do you use. I have an Uncle Mike's vertical Pro-
Pack shoulder holster for my Judge. While awaiting membership to
local gun club and finally test my 6.5 Judge, a question for you is
what kind of recoil does cor-bon +P offer? Thanks.

You might want to try Hogue monogrips model 73000. They don't offer
that squishey feeling of soft rubber as Taurus but bumping index finger
with recoil is elimenated. It seems easier to acquire sight picture and
one thing for sure, it's not as wide on the side making it easier to install
HKS Model CA-44 Speedloaders than stock handgrips.

on someone.

It appears to be about shooting soft tissue areas with shotshells
concering the Judge than vital areas. King Kong would be in a lot
of trouble shot in the throat with pellets trying to breath air mixed
with blood.

Smile Buffalo Bore Ammo

You may want to check with Taurus before shooting that stuff. Some of their 45LC ammo is comparable to and more powerful than standard 44 magnum ammo. In the manual that comes with the Judge, it says you should not shoot +p ammo in this gun. And buffalo bore is much more powerful than standard +p ammo. I bough some ammo from Georgia Arms and shot it and I am not sure I will shoot it again without calling Taurus first. The ammo I shot was 250 gr or 260 gr with a 1200fps. and it says only shoot in ruger, T/C and a couple other guns that shoot 45LC. The original 45Lc cowboy load was a pretty mild load. Anyway I am new to this site and was reading some posts on the Judge and thought I would put my 2 cents in. Very interested info. I read here on the Judge and hope to read some more on other guns as I am an avid gun lover. I have 14 pistols 12 rifles and a couple shotguns.
If you can get to the Buffalo Bore site, they are very aware of +P
loads and limitations many 45 colts have to them. They offer 2 loadings
they call Standard Heavy Pressure Loads, specifically for 45 colts that
are too week to handle +Ps. The first is a 200 gr hp at 1100 fps. The
second is a Keith style of 255 grs and 1000 fps. The appear to have
good reviews as to performace of hunting deer and hogs.

Have shot the buffalo bore heavy standard pressure (which are not +P but heavy normal pressure loadings w/255gr keith). Both have been great pistols so far. I like Taurus firearms, but they never got back to me when I faxed them about suitability of cor-bon's thru it.

Talked with a Cor-bon engineer about using their +P loading in the
Judge. The enginner stated they shot +Ps all day in Judges. He
further stated thousands of +Ps couldn't be fired in the Judge but it
was safe to use. If you ever get to read some of the sites it's
astounding how many people use the real heavy +P loads in their
Judges. I'm talking about 1300/1400 fps. With that information,
should I ever go to an area where big dangerous critters roam, I'd
have no problem using +Ps. Cor-bon, at one site particulary
recommends use of their 335 gr +P colt at 1050 fps and 820 fps
as it is their lower end +P. Being a hard cast bullet - that is
for a black bear. Brown & Griz probably the more potent +P along
with a prayer might help.

I was going to order some 260 gr /1200 fps 45 LC from Georgia Arms. I emailed them about it's suitability in a Judge; they emailed back that they wouldn't recommend it for the Judge. They are sending me some 200 gr Gold Dot loads they make, that run 1100 fps., instead.
I may trade my 6.5" Judge for a 3". I found a guy that wanted a long barrel, but could only find the short one; just the opposite for me. I got the long barrel, because that's all I could find. I can use the 3" for my use.

I got a Judge w/3" barrel Sat. It has a better "feel" than the long barreled Judge. So far, it's fired any 410 I've put in it with no problems. STILL waiting on an order of 45 LC! Bird and buck spread a lot sooner than from the 6.5" barrel; but I think I like the short one better.

I have a 6.5 Judge and finally got to shoot the thing. Let couple other people shoot
it, and one wanting one anyway but never shooting one til mine was convinced to
buy one. I'm surprised at how the 410 Winchester 000 and Remington 7.5 recoil.
It's managable, but just surprising compared to 45lc. The gun is a blast to shoot.
I just need some more range time to really get the characteristics down but from
what I saw of a pretty used up target, it appears accurate. Only got to use the
10 slot.

Watching that Taurus Judge Video "Melonhead", it does not take a rocket scien-
tist to see the damage #4's can do to a target. No - it probably would explode
a face, but the soft tissue in the face/neck area would still be devastating. I
wonder if they may have used the new Federal Loads made specifically for the
Judge that to my understanding will be available in May 09. I'm surprised no one
on this judge boards have not tried to duplicate that commercial.

My brother is a mortician. Several years ago, I went with him to prepare a
body of a young man shot with a 410 (obviously long gun as the Judge or any-
thing like it didn't exist). It was so close the pellets entering his shoulder had
no time to spread until it entered the body. He was dead as hell from just one
shot of the so called puny 410. Federal will offer a 1/4 slug at 1770 fps. I
imagine it's also designed for the Judge. I just can't believe that much velocity
from a revolver can't do some kind of damage to something.

My biggest question is what are the other manufacturers doing as far as possi-
bly creating a Judge. Just can't see them not doing anything while Taurus is
making all this money. I would just bet their strategy is just to see how the
Judge does and try to improve on any weaknesses.

P.S.

I was very surprised how clean the Judge was after firing about 100 rounds of various ammo. I was more surprised when I found my
fiber optic sight to have broken off. Called Taurus and they, out of
courtesy, are mailing me a replacement as their lifetime warranty
doesn't cover sights. I just can't help but wonder, how the heck
that mishap happened.

Red face Hogue Hangrip For Judge Update.

Dear Colleagues,

It is much to my dismay that I have to disclose an unfavorable
comments of the Hogue 73000 Grips for the Taurus Judge Revolver.
My initial comments were made before actually shooting with the
grips. After my first session at the range, I find the grips just
a little too streamlined unlike the Judge that is wider. Unable to
keep a solid grip on gun that just jumped around my hand eventu-
ally giving my index finger a bloody blister, I have to conclude
the Hogue Grip is just too small for my hand. Being a harder rubber
I believe provides more felt recoil.

Examining the Factory Grips, I have attempted to do a little
modification that will hopefully give the great results of the nice
fit for index finger as Hogue's presented.

In conclusion, I think if you have big hands those Hogue aren't
going to work for you. Otherwise, they are great. I only wish
Taurus would design their grips like Hogue with the finger grooves
but maintain that soft cushy felling.

I have a SS judge and it has a 3" barrel with a 2.5" cylinder and I am quite happy with it, Just ordered a new PT845, can't wait for that to come to try it out. Being a short person with small hands I have to admit the one I tried at the shop felt great, but anyway back to the Judge. I don't know if anyone else is getting as confused in reading the postings but I think we should clear up the way we describe our Judge's. They do come with a 2.5 and a 3 " cylinder in both 3" and 6.5" barrels (in blued, SS and as a light weight), so maybe we ought to state the barrel and cylinder length just to be clear to everyone else. Sorry, my opinion, just venting.

Now I notice up on the Taurus website and in the "What's new for 2009 catalog " that there is another new Judge out that has a 3" cylinder and a 1.5" barrel and it makes it look like a snub nose. what will be next a 12 inch barrel with a rifle stock???

HOW did you know! Kidding! I like the looks of the new gun; they call it the "Public Defender".

The new Judge "Public Defender" has finger grooved "Ribber" grips, but it is made on the small 85 size frame, so won't fit the regular "Tracker" frame Judge.

I've been giving The Judge some thought. When shooting Buck, how far away is it still a man stopper? At what distance does it switch from stopping an attacker and just annoy him? I'm not sure if that makes any sense. I know what I want to ask but not sure if I am wording it right.
