Hey ya'll, I recently bought a Taurus 605 (.357 mag./38 special snub nose.) What is the best all around .357 ammo to use.

Speer Gold Dot 125gr loaded to 1350fps (or about).In factory(which I never use)I am partial to Winchester. sam.

Welcome to the forum! I don't really like .357's. Too much recoil for me and I can't get back on target fast. Have you shot .357's? Lotsa kick. I shoot .38 +p's. More power than a .38, but less than a .357. Wal-Mart has the best prices around here by far. Try there first for either ammo.

As for the best "all around" .357...125 gr hollow points are the best defensive load for one shot stops against bad guys. All around loads may be whatever is less expensive. Any .357 is a powerful cartridge.

By the way...is this the small frame 5-shot that's the same size as the typical .38 snubby? If it is, hang on if you're shooting .357's!

You're welcome shooter. I carry a .38 snubby, a S&W Model 36 with the square butt. I can shoot regular .38's out of it, but I get better control with wadcutters. They are less powerful, but I'm on target better, especially for multiple targets. I have a criteria for defense guns. I need to be able to hit 14" x 20" (the size of my upper body) targets quickly and consistently out to 25 yards. I can do this better with the snubby loaded with wadcutters. In my heavy barrel Model 10 I use +p's. You ought to read my report on Hydra-Shoks in the ammo forum.

I ended up buy remington 357 magnum 125 grain hollow points. they do have a lot more punch than the 38 sp. The recoil rolled my wrist pretty good, but i was still able to pull back on target pretty quick, the main difference for me was the sound. it sounded like I was shooting a rifle.As far as accuarcy, I was highly surprised at how accurate it was with just a 2 inch barrel. At 10 full paces i was able to keep a group of about 5 inches. That is good enough for me for self defense.
