With a little more practice that recoil isnt going to bother you so bad even with full .454 loads. As to using .45 Colt,in standard loads and Ruger/TC,remember that the loads for a .45 Colt cartridge would be different if you used it in the .454 casing. And minimum loads for a .45 Colt might not expand a .454 casing to make a good gas seal due to the thicker brass in the .454 casing. sam.

i am buying brass in each caliber.
i also need to not lock my elbows along with not strangling the grips.
this is my 1st really bigbore handgun.
i have fired lots of .45acp/.357/.44's
but nothing like this.
it takes a different approach.
thanks sam!

You are so right about the porting causing most of the recoil slamming your palm straight back. My Bull is the only gun I actually wimp out and use a shooting glove on. But it makes it interesting to see the guys in the stalls on either side of me jump when I touch off that bad boy.

I hope I didn't make you jealous when I got mine, and made you run and get one.

This is truth. I only fired twenty rounds the first day of the .454. Now that I'm more used to it fifty isn't anything, anymore.

Muzzle brakes do wonders for recoil but not for night shooting. sam.

Isn't there a big difference between a muzzle brake and porting?
Like a muzzle brake is supposed to lessen recoil. All porting does is pretty much reduce muzzle flip.

Hey billy, the Beast From 20,00 Fathoms got loose in my yard, wanna come help me neutralize him? If my danged 45 Colt won't ring his bell, you'll have to use that 4354!
