My Taurus Model 65 grips are too big.

I finally shot my new (to me) model 65 today when the ammo came in. It was great! Smooth action, pretty accurate (a lot better than I expected) since they were all in the target circle at 17 yrds.

The problem is that it has nice, checked, wood grips that are really nice looking and comfortable,...just too big so that when I fire it, the recoil shifts it in my hand so that I re-grip after every shot.

I'm thinking that smaller rubber grips would be best, but how do you determine the size and will gun cleaning solvent (usually Hoppes) hurt rubber grips?

I have one Taurus with Pachmayer grips and a Ruger with Hogue grips: I don't soak them in Hoppes or any other solvent but the rubber doesn't seem to be harmed by incidental exposure in the least bit.

What do you mean by determine the size? What fits the gun, or your hand? What fits the gun is what it is sold as, for example: Fits Taurus Model 65. As to what fits your hand...you'd need to try a pair at a gun shop rather than order them by mail.

My 85 came with rubber grips - not sure who made them. They work fine. The solvents won't hurt the grips. I would avoid getting anything like "gun scrubber" on them - that stuff is rough. It pealed the paint off my rifle rest one day!

Thanks. I looked at this brand last night on the net and it looks like "CheaperThanDirt" has the least cost for this brand and the do have them for my 65. I figure if they are too big as well, it won't matter since they won't slip in my hand. Have a great day!
