| Taurus PT917C in Blue Steel
Hello all, New member here and I look forward to reading and contributing to the forum! I picked up the aforementioned pistol a few weeks back at a local gun show. The said pistol is described by Taurus as the ‘Compact Plus’ however it still has a similar, if not the same, frame as the PT92/99. Essentially this pistol is a Beretta-M9-type with a 4" barrel as opposed to the 5" barrel. This is personally a little more 'aesthetically' pleasing as the muzzle comes more flush to the slide as well as the frame and I think design also cuts down on the weight of an already heavy pistol. This is my first personal firearm and I must say that I am very pleased with my purchase overall. The PT917C is a rather new pistol as TaurusUSA.com mistakenly listed it as 'discontinued.' It is making its way onto the site as we speak. 250 115gr FMJ factory rounds have gone through this weapon including: Blazer, Winchester and Remington. The latter yielded 1/50 failed primer at the range. Accuracy and grouping is what I expected at 25 feet; I personally hit within 7-8-9 at that range on a torso-type paper target. My cursory background of pistol shooting includes: Glock 19; S&W Sigma 9mm; Walther P22. Being my first full-size, err ‘pseudo-compact,’ to shoot and much less own, I like it a lot and I look forward to becoming more comfortable and proficient with it. To break it down, here are some positives and negatives. Positives:

Hey Uncle Red! Nice! What are the main differences? I actually went to the range today off Atlantic in Jacksonville today and had a 'blast.' I fired 100 Wal-Mart Winchesters without a problem then went to 200 Atlanta Arms 115 gr. TCJ without any problems as well. There were even a few aluminum cartridges in there too. -Al |
