Differnent Hammer Im thinking about getting the "pink lady" for my wife as a carry gun. The only problem is I dont think she needs to put a revolver in her pocket book that has an external hammer on it. I have heard that you can either have the hammer modified/cut off or replace it with a different one. Where would I find a different hammer and how much do you think it would cost?

ander254: I believe the "pink lady" is made by Charter Arms. But in any case, usually its possible to cut or bob the hammer on a revolver. You possibly can even buy the bobbed hammer from the manufacturer and swap it out. And then the issue of making the gun DAO comes up. If you simply remove the existing hammer and cut it, then the gun remains DA/SA although you probably won't be able to thumb cock the hammer unless you leave enough of it behind to get good purchase. If you buy a bobbed hammer from the manufacturer, it may convert the gun to DAO. There are some instructions out there if you search that explain how to bob a hammer on a revolver. Of course, it may just be easier to buy a DAO, hammerless, or bobbed hammer revolver to begin with. Charter Arms, Taurus, Ruger, and Smith all make some nice small snubbies. I have the Taurus 851 Protector in .38 and it has a fully shrouded hammer that allows both SA and DA yet is snag free. And my gun has a windage adjustable rear sight blade that makes the gun even more appealing because I'm not just stuck with fixed sights. With all that said, the "fit and feel" of a gun is sometimes very different from person to person. So, it might be prudent to have your wife go to some shops and handle several guns to see if there are any issues with trigger reach, grip size, grip shape, etc. Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome to the forum! ClayMan

Yeah it is a Charter revolver. it slipped my mind when I was posting it. thanks for the input about the hammer. A friend of mine was saying that they make almost flush hammers that have just enough grip that you can still cock it but he didn't remember where he had seen one.
