Well my dad went down to Gander Mountain the other day to order his anniversary gift from my mom. He supposedly ordered a 608 with a 4" barrel. Well it came in the other day and noticed when he held it that the cylinder would spin even when locked up. Only one direction but he said that he could sit there, engage the cylinder and spin it like playing russian rullette. Is this normal for taurus revolvers? The gunsmith said it wasn't and sent it back off to taurus. He also mentioned that it was only a 7 shot cylinder, which is odd since the 608 is an 8 shot. I asked him if the grips were different like say the tracker model but he said it looked and felt just like the 608 we previously held. Do you think taurus goofed with the cylinder or just sent/ordered the wrong gun?

No it's not normal, and no it couldn't have been a model 608. Somebody put the wrong gun in the box.

next time they call him that its there, he is taking the specs from Taurus down there with him if it isn't correct just to show him what he wants. The cylinder spinning thing was new to me but I was sure that the 608 was an 8 shot. He said if they can't get it right he might just go ahead and order from budsgunshop. Well he went back by there just to confirm that they order a 608 and in fact they hadn't. It was a model 65, which still doesn't explain the 7rd cylinder. I bet it was a 66 because he said it had adjustable rear sight. Now the price they are quoting is about $75 higher than budsgun and none of their distributors have one in stock. Looks like old bud will be getting an order this week. Last edited by ander254; 04-27-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

4" is nice for carry, but I prefer a 6" to punch paper.

The prices in general at Gander Mtn seemed high to me the three times I've been. It's a good hour drive each way for me, so I don't go very often. Worse, one of the stores I went to had rust, or signs of past rust, in varying degrees on 90% of the guns I picked up. Mostly I was looking at .22's and the vast majority had either pitting from past rust on the bolts or full blown rust on bolts, rails, receivers. One Anschutz sporter I picked up had more rust than I've ever seen on a gun, the rails were actually completely covered with it. Not exactly up to my idea of what a new gun should be. Add to that the bulky trigger locks on everything preventing really checking the actions and trigger pulls and I don't see buying from them again unless they have something I can't get somewhere else. |

sounds like a new gun shop is in oder, I have seen all levels of crappy guns come into my store (pawn shop) some are due to the owners screwing them up and others are just really bad or no quality control at the factory.
