| Bought a gun I never expected to own!
Went to my private dealer with the intent to buy the Kahr P40...shot it off and was having problems with the strong recoil; the placement of my hands kept hitting the mag release button... My husband bought a Taurus Model 82 6 shot .38 special and insisted I shoot it; for the first few times I declined, telling him I have never shot off a revolver...he told me the recoil is less than my .380 so I gave it a try..... I AM NOW HOOKED ON REVOLVERS! Shot 6 rounds with my hubby's gun and was 6:6 at 15 yards....so I bought me a Taurus Model 85 5-shot .38 special...shot off 10 shots and was 10:10 at 15 yards! I tried pulling the hammer back before I shot off each round and found the gun to be smooth and accurate...the pull force was a bit tighter if I didn't cock the hammer back berfore I shot but the ease and accuracy remained the same. My .38 special is now my carry gun of choice!

that little taurus mod 85 is a nice gun, taurus has come a long way with it's quality control and I think you have 38 that will serve you well for a lifetime, oh and welcome to the world of revolvers.

That's great, the .38 special is a good one to have around, I think the revolver has been pasted over for too many years now. The 38 used to be the "normal" carry for most law men. I also like reloading for the 38, great fun to target practice too! You have the option of single or double action. It's good that you have the .380 auto to shoot with too, the knowledge of the varing types of weapons is good to have. You may venture out later on with a .357 mag. which has more power and you can shoot the 38 spec. out of it. With the power increase there's an increase in the weight of the revolver. |

I certainly love Wheelguns! Congratulations on your purchase and I hope that it serves you well for years. I only have to suggest the Ruger SP101 now or the S&W J-frame. I personally prefer those for the .357 capability. |

All my revolver calibers begin with the number 4---- So I can't comment on those that start with the number 3. But You are most welcome to the wonderful world of wheel guns! Cyrille |

Glad you like wheelguns and enjoy--quite a wheelgun fan myself. The T85 is a great gun. Snubbies do take some work to get good at shooting, though.

I was the same way...when I got into the world og handguns, I only wanted semi-autos....couldn't tell you why I wasn't interested in revolvers; I guess my husband's persistance in getting me to shoot a revolver really helped me out. Give it a try SCgirl and let us all know!

ive shoot both 9mm and .38 special, but the 9 is a s&m, and the .38 is a very cheap off brand. no need to tell you witch i prefer. if i didnt cock the .38 the trigger pull was so strong i could barrly shoot it 6 times. not to mention that the firing pin only hit the primer about 25% of the time, if i tried use the double action. worked fine as a single action though.

I've gone back to revolvers off and on due to reliability problems with autoloaders. Also use a snubby for CCW at times. The Sig 220 seems to be a keeper though--we'll see how it holds up. Nothing wrong with a wheelgun. Pull the trigger and bang. If you can't solve your problem with 5 or six shots, maybe you ought to be a better problem solver

Don't get me wrong...my FEG .380 is wonderful..and is a keeper; where I have difficulty with it is when I rack it then de-cock it; the trigger pull then is greater because now the hammer has to swing back before firing; when I have to do that, my aim is less accurate because I shake the gun a bit; I shoot it best when I rack then shoot; with the revolver, its not hard for me to pull the hammer back or to just shoot it; seems like the trigger is not as great as my .380.

Semi Auto's are in style and people forget how great revolvers are. You can't vary your load to much with an auto but you can with a revolver and it's less likely to go wrong when you need it most, and no safety to fool with. I have more auto's but keep some revolvers around too.

I just like the fact that I broadened my horizons by having both a semi-auto and a revolver!

I think I still would have got a Taurus .357 mag. Can still shoot the .38's and gives you a proven man stopper option.

I've a .357 mag snubbie; I'm really not very sure it offers a great advantage over the .38 special +P option. You get a little more MV, but alot of blast and powder go out the front at the expense of some pretty extreme recoil. The lightweight frames are OK, but if you'd carry it all the time and make it steel it sure helps the shootability for me. I seem to shoot the airweight better than the 340PD; but the PD has better hi-viz sights. I usually wind up carrying .38 +P snubbie when I'm carrying a .38/.357 snubbie.

Congrats I love revolvers. Now it's time to introduce you to single actions. I'm a thumb-cocker even when I shoot a double action. I guess I'm an addict.
