I've been shooting for a few years (50) and am a decent shot, but not when I wake and hear someone breaking in at 3 in the morning. I guarantee that when hit with the 410, even with #6 shot at 5 to 15 feet (same room combat) will do a little more than "annoy them". And a miss won't penetrate the wall and kill someone on the other side. By that time I'm fully awake and can use the 45's in the remaining chambers. I wouldn't trade the Judge for any other home defence weapon.
Just my two cents worth.

Nice Pics, Sgt. I know the Judge can bark--especially the UL version !

U guys prefer #6 over #4 ? I've been using mostly #4, but the pattern density gets very low at any distance.

I do not own one but have told others I think it would be a good choice for home defense where the distance is short. I have always said shotshell first, 45 colt 2nd and back to shot shell and so on. I do believe a shotshell in the face at 10 feet will damage a bad guy enough to get him with the 45 next. With more time to aim at 10 ft it doesn't take much aim. I wish someone would have found some #4 buck load. Sportsman warehouse or cheaper than dirt has 410 shells sometimes of different types. As always any gun is better than none and some one always thinks a different one is better.

4. The rifled slug was also a disappointment and did not have enough weight or power or penetration to be effective as a defense load.

5. The .45 Long Colt loads had plenty of penetration and would be the preferred defense load for this pistol.

6. It's fun to bust clays with this pistol.

And, as usual, it's always fun to shoot stuff.
apparently if a snake is breaking into your house.
shot is the ticket.

otherwise
just use a bullet.

1. Birdshot might be for little birds, but might also get multiple hits when others would get a miss. This very well might persuade an attacker he's in the wrong line of work.

2. 000 Buckshot (from Winchester or S&B) from the manufacturer clocks at about 950 fps and at close range is a pretty wicked combination of 3 .380 rounds at once. The Box O "truth" didn't do a proper evaluation of buckshot out of the gun at all. The buckshot spreads out fairly quickly as well.

3. .45 Colts are an undisputed stopper with proper shot placement. While I wouldn't want to shoot +P's out of the gun, the BB standard pressure heavy 45 colts are ideal, both in the Keith or the Unicore depending on your situation.

4. Rifled slugs don't have a place, except for fun (they go KaBoom with flame out the muzzle) and potentially in limited penetration situations.

5. When loaded bird, buck, Colt or some variant of this, the Taurus Judge is perfect for home and car defense in situations where an unsecured shotgun is unacceptable.

6. Shooting the gun is a blast !

I do this pretty well, but do it alot better when the paper ain't shooting back (or trying to knife me) and the light's pretty good. I do know of folks better than me that hit targets pretty well, but have missed when they've not quite gotten the aimed fire/coarse aimed fire they wanted down under stress.

Anyway, it's a way to hedge a little.

Billy I agree, 255gr gold dots and you have a sd weapon.
If I shoot someone I want them to go down not have time to evaluate their lives.

I use the 200 GDHP (buffalo bore) or sometimes the 255 keith. AFTER the birdshot and buckshot.

Unlike y'all supercops, I sometimes miss.......Even after 20+yrs mil experience.

Tx use what you like, the gdhps would put a hurting on any one and would be a excellent stopper.
If you want a shotgun use a shotgun, birdshot out of a 3"barrel is a joke unless its point blank range[spitting distance] if you can't hit at that range with a single bullet use a grenade. After 20+ years in the military what happened to your common sense?

Well, that's not nice. If it's a "joke" it's not a funny one, and I'm quite happy with what I've got for my defensive situation (looks like I believe you have quite a profound lack of understanding of the matter and/or shooting in defensive situations or just enjoy stirring things up).

Anyway, good luck to you; think I'd like to keep this "nice" so's I'm done with your input on the matter . All the best to you

TX I have a very good understanding, I am a firm believer in stopping the fight asap
Birdshot out of a 3"barrel might a 255gd will.
However If you are confident with your sd weapon god bless and I hope you never are in a situation that you have to find out. And the best to you.

Pics of 12 gauge birdshot against a thin piece of metal. TWELVE GAUGE

Round 4 - 00 Buckshot vs Birdshot

410 birdshot from a 3" barrel? If it makes you feel good, go for it.
