| Barrel appears jagged
Took my revolver to the gun range today...shot off some +P's and wadcutters. While cleaning the revolver I noticed that at the end of the barrel it appears to be "jagged"-that is the best I can explain it. Was wondering if the +P ammo may have caused this?

When you say the end of the barrel, do you mean where the crowning is or just at the end of the barrel? Might you be able to take a good picture and post it? Hard to give a decent answer without knowing where for sure. As for the +P ammo, I would think if it were to cause any problem, it would be in the rifling itself, in the action or at the breech end? I could be wrong? Also, I really don't think +P ammo would or did anything at all... Also, I noticed you posted this in the Taurus forum, but which model Taurus do you have. If it isn't made to shoot +P, then that would be possible it caused a problem or could, but not necessarily the problem you mentioned...Your owners manual should say whether or not you can shoot +P ammo or not or reloaded even...If you don't have a manual, you can either call Taurus and request one or go to the site I linked below. Just scroll down to the T's and find your model, if they have it? page7b

Glockmeister...I have a Taurus Model 85 revolver..I have never had any luck posting my pictures here but I will try it now. I am attempting to take pics but it is coming in blurry...I can tell you what I see when I look at the end of the barrel. When I run my finger across the end of the barrel it is rough-almost like it now needs to be sanded down to be smooth again. The jagged ends appear to start just inside the end of the barrel. I am not quite sure what part of the barrel is the "crown" glockmeister. I apologize for the awful description of my problem.

| Senior Member | Crowning
Mrs.S: Ma'am; at the end of the barrel where the bullet comes out; [not condescending] for explanation only Flat across the end of the barrel without any concave = equals = no crowning Flat across the end of the barrel ''with'' concave is crowning. [outer part of the barrel is longer than the inner] Crowning ?protect? the last thing the bullet touches when it is leaving the barrel. VERY IMPORTANT for accuracy. generally the crown is 79 degree to the flat end of the barrel. Without pictures it will be hard to tell about this ''jagged''. Could be lead, powder residue, could be part of a piece of candy that got hot and stuck. If by chance you have damaged the ''crown''. It isn't the end of the world. Gunshop can re crown the firearm. Don't jump off until you have some pictures that can be looked at.
