The model 66 is a nice .357 magnum. I used to have a 689(?) that was real nice as well.

I'd agree about the model 66 being a nice .357, especially if it's the S&W model 66, cuz I sure do love mine. It was my very first handgun/revolver when I turned 21. Ok, took me some time but I found these for you to consider? Not just Taurus though, But did include one of each in .44mag and .357mag. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=112437836 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=112437811 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=112229417 A used S&W model 66 in .357mag >>> http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=112315574 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=112437310 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=112170679 It all depends on whether or not you want new or used and how much you have or want to spend. Taurus is and will always be cheaper. Then Ruger and then S&W.

I have a black .44 Tracker 6 1/2 inch barrel I like the gun it shoots fine with 240 grain or smaller rounds (short cylinder) just like the old 5 shot Smith chiefs special. No issues yet picked it up used with less than 1 box of rounds shot. Got the gun a hard case,1 and a half boxes of Winchester 240 grain ammo and a holster for 220.00 and a rifled 12 ga barrel I wasn't using I shoot brenneke knock outs in my shotgun much cheaper.

Love that gun! Not sure about the Tracker. I have the Raging Bull in .454 Casull though, and it makes my Ruger SBH 44 mag seem like a pea shooter.

My S&W 629 is both single or double action. I'd let you try her out but I don't have any shells for her right now!

+1 w/ Privateer's post... ...mine has the 4" barrel, same model and finish. Solid, reliable and accurate...and it functions as DA/SA. http://www.taurususa.com/products/pr...egory=Revolver

lol ok gandog, ok, But I have to ask, which model 66 came first, S&W's or Taurus's? lol And the only tracker I have and have tried is the one in .17HMR I have. Shoots very well.

I have the Taurus Tracker in SS with 4" barrel. Here's an excellent review of the gun. I actually bought this gun because of this review and I whole-heartedly agree with Jeff Quinn's opinions on this gun. Taurus Tracker .44 Magnum Revolver MVC-015F.jpg Anyway, I love this gun. Except I really didn't like the factory "ribber" grips, so I put the Hogue rubber grips on it. That made all the difference for me. Here's a pic from Hogue showing their grips on a .45 ACP Tracker and my .44 Mag looks just like this: 73000L.jpg This gun is an absolutely fun gun to shoot. I like the MagTech 240 grain soft points...I get excellent accuracy. I also like the porting...I think it really helps with muzzle flip. I think Taurus revolvers are quality, well built guns. The trigger on my gun is excellent...smooth in DA and in SA it's very crisp and light. BTW - I also own/have owned Ruger DA revolvers. And you can absolutely say that Rugers are built like tanks while the Taurus revolvers are not. But I'm not saying this as anything bad against Taurus, just recognizing the difference between Ruger and Taurus. I own both Ruger and Taurus guns and I have no plans of getting rid of my Taurus Tracker...this is one great gun. ClayMan Last edited by ClayMan; 11-04-2008 at 06:18 PM. Reason: added pics |
