I would think you would need a new recoil spring/guide rod, slide and mags in addition to the barrel, of course. That probably means that the slide would have to be fitted either by the factory or a gunsmith.
The only reason I think you would need a new slide is an assumption that the outside diameter of the barrel of the .40 would be greater than that of a 9MM barrel. And so the hole in the slide where the barrel rides would have to be enlarged for the .40, thus making it to large for the 9MM.
However, I’m not a gunsmith and I don’t play one on TV. Maybe someone else has a better answer.

That's one reason I like my Sig P229. It came with a 40 cal barrel, I got the 357 Sig barrel, and there is a 9mm conversion barrel available. The .40/357 Sig swap is just a barrel change. The 9mm barrel needs a different mag.
But I do love my two Taurus pistols, not to be plugging my Sig in the Taurus forum!

But the way he says it sounds like he did convert a 9 to 40: on that page he says, "A Taurus favorite, this .40 Caliber version of our 9mm PT92 offers full 10+1 capacity in the popular police caliber."
I wonder what the outside diameter of a 40 cal barrel is. There is considerable clearance between my 9mm barrel and the slide.
Can you tell I don't give up easy? (Even when, maybe, I should!)
I realize I could buy a 40 for $500 or so, but I don't have many guns, and if I'm going to drop that much, I'd rather get something really different, such as a good CCW piece.
But if I could convert my 9 to 40 for, say, $300, I'd have $200 seed money for a 40 cal ccw (or maybe a Taurus 1911!).

No he's saying the PT100 is a .40 cal version of the PT92. There are 9mm conversion kits for the PT100, but I haven't seen the reverse.
Have Taurus PT99AF in 9mm. Tried to put Taurus PT101AF in 40S&W on. The only thing that would work WITHOUT BINDING was the 40S&W barell/guide rod & spring in the 9mm slide. Researching what 40S&W magazine would fit Taurus PT99AF. The 9mm barrel fits the PT101AF. Comparing both slides the 40S&W is THICKER. Contacted Taurus & they said that THEY would not be liable & that the conversion WILL CANCEL WARRANTY.
