Brand new 856 revolver - problem with the cylinder falling out when you point it down(its a spring) - Sometimes sticks when you try to close the cylinder, will not close at all. have fired 200 rounds or so and it is getting worse. I am disappointed with the gun -fit and finish of the triger and hammer is poor. Just much poorer quality than I expected after all the good reviews. I think Taurus and I are a bad fit!
We don't sell them for just that reason...too many problems and not enough attention to quality. We dont want unsatisfied customers. We wont even work on them. Many people seem to like them though, and to each his own.
I think Taurus is starting to go downhill quality-wise. For a while I know that they were fine, but lately it seems as though they are slacking off. I started the one about the Taurus 1911 if you haven't already read it, check it out.

I have liked every Taurus I have ever shot. I have called them with just general questions and they have been very easy to talk to. Never had a problem with one so I have never had to have one returned. Call them if you are having a problem with one of their guns.
New SS Mod 66..........after a few hundred rounds, had to move the rear site all the way to the right (I do shoot several brands and often) in order to even get close to the center @ 15yds.
Sent it in and after 4 months of waiting, they "adjusted" the barrel. That's all it said. Took it out of the box, opened the cylinder, then tried to close it....CLUNK...jams the front of the cylinder's outer edge against the back of the barrel. Closer look...rear of barrel is marred up like it was hit with a chisel and hammer.
I have other, older Taurus and have always like them. The new stuff just doesn't have the quality control. Talk with a rep at a show yesterday and he said that they pump out one design after another, modify the machining and pump out more.
I frequent several online gun forums and have been seeing a lot of negative posts about current Taurus revolver quality. As well as bad customer service. Apparently they talk a good game, but often return guns w/issues still intact. For the cost of guns, gotta do better to get my money.
Sorry to hear about your problems. It appears only a few get lucky when they buy a Taurus firearm.
My neighbor just bought a Taurus slim 9mm and it's junk. Failure to fire and some bad machineing.
Mooseman 684 a moderator here at G&G and a gunsmith has said many times to steer clear of Taurus firearms.
I believe him now and would never buy one myself.
I had a terrible experience with Taurus.I bought a Taurus 94 .22 in Feb 09' and from day one it would fail to fire at least 3 of every 9 rounds, and eventually the gun cylinder started seizing up.I sent it to Taurus in May 09',and did not recieve it back(actually they replaced it)until Sept. 09'.I had the replacement for about a month when all the sudden it seized up,and when I started to cock the gun to inspect it,the transfer bar fell out,and it was all mangled up.I sent it back and Taurus sent another brand new gun a month later to my house. It is illegal here in MI for me to be in possession of a handgun not pre registered to me before I possess it,yet they sent a new gun with a new serial number to my house.I then decided enough was enough and traded the new one they sent me along with my Rossi .357 to my gun dealer for a Ruger P95.I doubt I will ever buy another Taurus,I will stick with Ruger from now on.
Well, I've never owned a Taurus but my stepson had one that was flawless for several thousand rds. The only time he experienced a failure was a FTF after he stuck his supporting-hand thumb behind the slide and got tracked.
I don't think of them as junk, but if I were to buy one, I'd do a thorough exam on it before laying out the cash. As many guns as they produce, there are going to be a few lemons in the bunch.
Lets see, I got lucky with my Pt 101, then I got a Pt 709 yep yep thats a good gun then I got Lucky with my PT 1911, which is my favorite gun including a Colt and a Kimber. Now I Got a Raging Bull .454 cas. And Guess what? that works just great too. Whats up?
The Worst box stock gun I ever seen was a GLOCK. I have had 4 in a row Ruger 10-22s that were all turds, one went back to Ruger TWICE. My brothers own several that even work good for me. I ownwed a SA 1911 that couldnt be made to run.
I plain wore out two Taurus pistols back in the early 90s. Both 9mm. I also ran a steady diet of Chicom 124 "mil spec" ammo that was more like sub gun ammo. It was only $95.00 per 1K back then. Destroyed them guns real good. One smith said the PT92 had 50,000 rounds worth of wear on it in just a little over 3,000 rounds..... Oops sorry about gettin off track there.
Be around enough guns and there are going to be bad ones. FWIW I know a few people that swear by Taurus or own atleast one. None have sworn at one yet and a real life stat here. 70% of my friends have a Judge of one model or the other. Not a single one has a problem.
I think people are more vocal when they have a problem with a Taurus. I mean look at how many people have "breakin" issues or have "bad" magazines when they report a Kimber failing. From what I have seen I will never own one and they are the most problematic brand (not style or model) of pistol I see at matches or the range.....
Thinkin' of getting the wife a 709 slim. If I run good ammo in it, since it is not designed for a range gun shot 12,000 times a year I have no need to shoot crappy hard primer bulk ammo in it and my wife does not have a limpwristing habbit. I suspect it will work fine for her, then maybe I can get my G19 back......
Give Taurus' customer service a chance. I've read both good & bad about it. You may have a good experience. I wouldn't trade it off on someone without letting them know what issues you've had with it. Of course, that means you won't get much for it, so best bet is at least give Taurus a chance to get it right. If they don't fix it, not any worse off than you are now.
