Chuck Norris may run for PRESIDENT of Texas.

This was political and not gun related so I put it here. That's right I said President.

If Texas ever succeeded I would have to return there and stand with Her to live or die as circumstance required. Having been born there and having a love for Texas, I could do no less.

If Texas were to secede, what's to keep another country, oh, let's say Mexico, from invading?

What treaties would we have to sign with the U.S. (the country we just seceded from, mind you), with the attendant loss of treasury and liberties, to prevent that?

A Texas military, while loud, enthusiastic, and bombastic, would not last long against most sovereign nations.

Texas secession is fun to think about, and pound the table and thump the pulpit about, but it's not a practical solution. Now, another Southern secession, that's a different story...

1. You underestimate the power and influence of the Republic of Texas.

2. What makes you think Mexico has the manpower, and resources, to invade another country? They're too busy keeping their own country from falling apart to worry about invading another country.

Go poo-poo on somebody else's party. We don't need your negativity around here.

Alaska doesn't have enough money to buy us.

Texas is not hurting for money. We have a budget surplus. And we don't have a state income tax. Our state government knows how to manage debt and spending, unlike the Democrats in power in D.C.

As a state, Texas is not hurting for money. As a nation, that would change quickly and drastically. Ditto the state budget surplus - we'd be paying for what's provided Federally now. And the "no state income tax" issue would be moot - we'd have to enact something at the Texas National level.

I agree completely, but bear in mind that the libs/Dems in Houston, Dallas, and Austin would still try to screw things up. Our state may be the best in the country, but we still managed to hatch a Paul Begala, Ann Richards, Lyndon Johnson, and, of course, Sheila Jackson Lee. Hopefully they'd all just leave.

Do you Texans read your own newspapers?
Cloud looms over Texas budget | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Texas Legislature
Budget deficit tops Texas Legislature's list
Port Arthur, Texas, Schools Face Budget Deficit for Next School Year. | Article from Beaumont Enterprise (Beaumont, TX) | HighBeam Research

Etc....

We could always go the william johnstone ashes series way Nuke the world and the survivors would toughen up and the government that would form then would never sway so far left as it has today to the point of im surprised it can still stand on its own.

That's a very strange suggestion. Methinks your cure is worse than the so-called disease, by far.

There's also no guarantee the government that formed would be any more to your liking than the present one. After all, the Russians and Chinese were about as tough as they come, and look what they wound up with for a government. I've never met any North Koreans, but if they're anything like the ROK's I knew, they're hard as nails. And look what they have for a government.

Takes more than toughness...

There are a lot of states in on this total wave of "state rights" legislation that is gaining momentum. I don't think many people are chomping for independence from our great republic, but they are letting it be known that the federal government has seriously strayed from its proper place and that behavior won’t be allowed to go on.

Kind of a shame they didn't start getting upset about it a few years earlier...

Speaking of unnecessary posts...I don't see a thing in yours that couldn't just as well have been left unsaid. And folks weren't just singing a pretty song about their state; they were dumping on mine while they were at it.

My signature is a comment on a very specific event: apparently even folks in the back country are getting PC. A moderator from Oklahoma got upset because I called him son, and told me he wouldn't tolerate me 'degrading and belittling' people by using that word. If PC, touchy-feely sensitivity and being oh-so-careful not to hurt anyone's fragile feelings is taking over the South too, I don't want anywhere near it anymore.

I grew up around Okies and descendants of Okies, and I lived in Oklahoma and roughnecked on the oil rigs thirty years ago, and that's the first Okie I ever ran into in my life who felt he was being degraded when someone called him son.
