45/410 Barrels

I recently purchase an old style Contender and am looking to add a 45/410 barrel, I am wanting a 10 barrel, but have noticed that I have a chose of the Vented barrel and the one with the regular sights, I see that the vented comes with a removable choke, but feel the sights would be better when shooting 45 bullets, I want the 410 as a snake gun, does the barrel with the sights shoot a good enough pattern to make a good snake gun, without having to get to close to them , lol, would sure like to hear from someone who has owned and or shot both types that could give me some advice before I buy. Thanks

I've killed a couple grouse with mine,25 yards? 10'' barrel, sights screw in tube.Seemed lethal enough, never had any charge,or try to bite me. mike

I had 2 of those Barrels years ago...you have to use the choke when shooting shotshells due to the barrel being rifled, and remove the choke to shoot .45 Bullets. They worked just fine as far as accuracy.

45/410

If you consider the fact that the 45 bullet was jumping quite a ways to reach the start of the rifling I think accuracy is surprisingly good. mike

I have a 10" old style 45/410 barrel with the external choke. I only use it with iron sights and find it to shoot very well and quite accurate at 20 yards with a nice pattern for the shot shell. Since shooting snakes will be at much closer range the 10" barrel will give you a nice killing pattern. As Moose states...REMOVE the choke before shooting .45 through it; believe it or not, it's easy to forget to do that.
BTW, the old style barrel only came with the vented muzzle and does not affect the accuracy at all.
If you will notice, the choke has straight lands and grooves. This effectively stops the shot from spinning after going through the spiral lands and grooves of the barrel. Do not shoot slugs through the choke, however.

I watched the Guns and Ammo torcher test on that exact model. They wanted to see what would happen if someone left the choke tube in and then shot the .45 round?

So they did it, and nothing happened. Of course they said that doesn't mean you can or get to leave the choke tube in, and that it was impressive the firearm and the choke tube held up. Also mentioned that those at T/C, must have anticipated the fact someone might do this and made it so it would hold up.

So if any of you out there do forget to remove that choke, take comfort in knowing it will more then likely hold up.

On a side note, I hope to someday get the chance to pick up a T/C. Not necessarily that model, but one of a few I like. They seem to be well made and hold up quite well through the years.

replacement for T/C choke

I too am looking for a replacement tube for an encore and can not find one anywhere. Does T/C manufacture their own or job it out to another company? Any help appreciated! Regards, husker415

Call or email them and ask. I'm sure they'll tell you where to get and a part # if anyone asked them.

Glock, I'd a liked to have seen that episode. My guess is that a normal lead bullet would compact much easier than a jacketed hollow point or something similiar. I wonder if a .410 slug would go through without damage. No, I'm not going to try and see. LOL

Hey, bud! I own that, they have some recoil with the choke in but, that's how I shoot mine. The 45 isn't great because there's a 3 in chamber in front of it, so it lacks accuracy at a distance over 50 meters. I shoot snakes with the 410 at about 25 feet, it cuts a one inch hole at that distance. A little dove shot is a marvelous thing. The vent rib barrel has a screw adjustment on the front sight-raises and lowers the blade, just neat! and the back sight flips up on a hinge although it's stiff and stays that way. I like it for .410, just not .45.
