Pick up a Burnham Brothers Squealing Rabbit call. It fits nicely in your mouth without the use of your hands. They'll come a running. Better be ready.

with the price of cats, and the regulations involved, you'll probably enjoy trapping them more. The hide is thin and valuable. This winter they were bringing $400. every hole must be sewn. Do not cut the belly, tube the hide. Only wash if very dirty. When you trap live, they usually just strangle the cat to avoid damaging the fur.

What about just gasing them injecting them with chemicals? That eliminates the possibility of getting scratched or bit.

Hey Ox,
when I said "strangle" I didn't mean with your bare hands. You use a loop on the end of a pole and insert it into the live trap. Skulls, claws and fur are all valuable. Don't shoot in the head, unless you like throwing away money. In addition skulls must be turned in to F & W for ID. In MT cats require a trappers permit in addition to other permits.

I have to say, I feel that the choke type traps should be gotten rid of. Hunting? great! Trap? Great! Provided animals are taken in a humane way. Shoot them, and get it over with. There is no reason to make an animal suffer for no reason, To me it fits in the same catagory of killing a deer and letting the corpse rot where it fell. Just my two cents.

choke

I apparently am not explaining myself properly. The cat does not suffer at all. If you trap the cat in a live trap (wire box), you insert a pole with a noose on the end. Get it around the cats neck and choke. There's nothing wrong with shooting except that you put holes in $100 dollar bills (if you get my meaning). Actually the cat suffers less in some cases because a lot of people can't hit the right spot the first time with their pistol. I have tried killing coons in a cage and occasionally the bullet ricochets off the wire, damaging the hide and causing the animal to suffer even more.

Jay,

AH!! Okay, here I am envisioning a trap with a garrote type latch. Cat comes in, trips a wire that's hanging neck level and gets choked. You've righted youself with me!

You can use an electronic call with either a bleating rabbit, yellow-bellied woodpecker call, or kittens mewing. I personally like mouth calls better. Burnham Bros make one called the Black Magic that works well for me. I've even used duck calls and screamed through them before. You can't really mess up when calling, it isn't as structured as calling up ducks. It is more based on intensity. Bobcats are pretty wary, so it usually takes a while to call them in. The shortest amount of time for me to call one in to shooting distance was 20minutes and I have called up as long as an hour. Coyotes will come in pretty quick to calls, so if you are after a bobcat you'll have to pass them up. One other thing too, if you are going to have a full body mount done, do not gut it, it messes up the hide and you will be stuck with a head mount. Just throw it in an ice chest and keep the body cool until you can get it to a taxidermist. Good luck, it is a lot of fun.

Just curious! If you have seen five, why do you need to "bring them too you": When I am hunting, usually if I can see it I can hit it. Im talking bobcat at 300 yards or less, "dead cat"

I can't see the point of killing just for the sake of killing. I don't shoot deer anymore, They tast like liver or pinecones. Now Moose, now thats a horse of a different color. Bobcats are few and far between and unless you make your living traping they should be left alone. They are beautifull animals and I don't need to prove anything. Some hunters spend a lifetime in the woods and never see one. My opinion

agreed, as long as the meat and hide are not wasted, then happy trails. but for just the sake of killing is criminal.
