Yawn, my Savage is basically the same thing, made right before the accutrigger came out. It's tough but I've never had cause to complain.

Nice font there on the creepy, though.

Creep can be gotten rid of. Nice rifle otherwise, as they have to cut corners somewhere to keep the price down. If you are mechanically inclined, you can save some money - buy more ammo! :right:

I would 3rd the H&R, for the price I don't think that they can be beat, plus you can send them back and get different barrels for the.

The NEF Handy rifle gets my vote too. A buddy of mine has a .223 with a bull barrel, and it'll shoot just under MOA with 55 gr. Hornady V-Max. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a God awful heavy trigger pull. I'd guess it at around 6 or 7 pounds, but a good gunsmith could take care of that for you though. One thing to remember is that Handi Rifles barrels are a 1 in 12" twist, which means that you won't be able to shoot heavy bullets through it.

If Papa G opts for the H&R 223 Ultra, it will probably have a pretty good trigger from the factory. They usually have a better trigger than the normal NEF Handi rifle. Same rifles, just the Ultra is a bit nicer. And not much more either.
Hey Copper, tell your friend to try out the Winchester White Box 45gr JHP, absolute best load I have found yet for my 223 Ultra. Sub Moa every time.

I believe that when you send the handi rifle back for other barrels that they will do a triger job on it, and drop it to a nice light pull.

They will do the trigger job for free if your trigger pull is more than 5lbs I believe. Anything after that is like $10 I think. If you ask nice enough, you just might get it. You catch more wil honey than vinegar, right?

Thanks for the input myarmor, I'll pass it on. Just this morning, we were checking the zero's on our deer rifles out behind my barn when this fat gound hog appeared out of no where along the fence. My buddy had his Handi Rifle with him in his truck. The ground hog patiently waited for my buddy to get back with his rifle and when he did, the chuck stood up as if he was posing for a picture. My buddy squeezed off a round of 55 gr. V-Max from about 60 yards or so and there was a cloud of pink mist were the chucks head used to be. A good time was had by all.

Those 55gr V-Max really do a number on groundhogs. They are an excellent bullet. And at 60yards the little guy hardly had a chance

Around $259

.223 and 7.62x39 came close to buying one today...
I think one in 5.45x39 might be quite effective on varmits. Do not underestimate the 74's accuracy.

Does anybody know anything about those saiga rifles. I can't find anybody who deals them around here but they say you can get them dirt cheap. I really want a .223 but I can't find one in my price range.

High quality, YES. High accuracy, YES. Cheap YES, dirt cheap, NO. Under $300 used is a good deal these days now that they've dried up. Should be imported again soon though.

got one...can cover target @100yd with a quarter (with handloads I'm sure it can be made to shoot better). The only problem is that its single shot but a well made gun.

Stevens Model 200 is the cheapest I have seen, as for new production rifles.

Question Savage Arms

I am a big fan of Savage Arms and like the idea of the Stevens Model 200. How much do they run in your area? The website shows them just a little over $300 witch isn't terrible.
