Lots of ads I see show them for $260. Gander mountain has them for $260 with a scope. Not in the 223 version, so their prices may be to move their existing inventory of non-223s.

Stevens/Savage has had price increases since I bought my Stevens 200 in .223 last May. They're closer to $270-$280 now. Sometimes you will see model 200 in other calibers down around $240 but not the .223. It sells pretty fast so you don't see the lone sale priced stragler in that caliber anymore.

I looked for months before I finally had a gun store order mine. Savage/Stevens announced two price increases last year. I've never seen any mod 200 of any caliber under $200. That's incredible.

But my Saiga in .223 was only 235 dollars, and I got the famous AK47 semi-auto action. Not to mention the option to put on a thirty round clip instead of the ten rounder it came with. Putting a 3X14 power scope on it now. Bet it will be great on prairie dogs.

OK, so i've read somewhere that with the H&R single shot rifles, a bipod will make them shoot funny or not shoot well at all. I would do 85 percent of my squirrel shooting with a bipod. Thoughts?

Where the forestock meets the break there can be stress points that affect the barrel. The NEF crowd has many cures for this. Spacing etc. The NEF does not become a wild shooter by any means though. The NEF is not as accurate as the Stevens but then the Stevens is extremely accurate. It can outshoot most any .223. But the NEF H&R is a very good rifle with the lowest price in that caliber range. If a bipod causesa H&R to open up the groups then the contact area at the break may be binding. Now we are back to spacing the break.

Either the NEF, Siaga or Stevens will do good.
The NEF is cheapest and fairly accurate
The Stevens is more expensive, but the most accurate
The Siaga is super reliable and so so accurate and costs about the same as the stevens.

If you want a range toy that doubles as a varminter, I'd go for the siaga.

Easy fix. Just drill a hole and install a swivel stud close to the receiver.
I would hold my 223 H&R Ultra against any Stevens. They will shoot just as good, but they require a little more skill and know how. In the end it will make you a better shooter, I know I have learned much more discipline from a single shot, than a bolt action. There isn't nearly as much room for error.

Those new Remington's 770? "non 700" are selling with synthetic stock and scope in .223 for less than $500 would be the way to go for a new rifle or shop around for a good used one locally.
