Im goin fox hunting with my shotgun unless i get a new rifle for Christmas, im thinking about buying an encore in .280 Rem. i was wondering if anyone knows any tried and trued techniques for getting fox in close enough for a shotgun say about fifty yards, im hunting in thick brush. I have some mouth calls but im still a novice using them. I can do pretty good though on the fox here at my house, calling one in about every fourth or fifth time i try. it is illegal to bait in tennessee and they are really cracking down around here several people have been caught in the past year or so. any help would be appreciated.thanks.

twra2b...I've never been fox hunting so have no first hand experience. I've only seen it done in movies or on tv hunting shows. Sounds like fun, though! It would especially be challenging to call one in close enough to harvest the rascal with a SG. Last week I was watching a show where they were showing coyote hunting...must be similar...and they were using stress sounds of rabbits and other coyotes to call those dogs in. However, they were using rifles and scopes at long distance for their kills. Good luck and have fun! :right:

Get a Walker hound. Get a neighbor who keeps chickens. Also, .223 sounds like it would hard to beat. Even .22WMR would do good for a fox. .280 seems like it would be a bit hot to me. I can't shoot fox, they are too pretty, but I am hell on coyotes. |

im a deer hunter, i need a gun to do the job on a deer and will work on fox and coyotes. if i get and encore in a few years i might be able to afford a new barrel in a .22-250 or .223. i like fox also but once there are too amny you have to thin them down a little, i have yet too shoot one my family likes too look at them too, but they are getting 2 chickens a week off the guy up the road. i got hooked on varmint hunting by Randy Anderson's "Calling all Coyotes (1 and 2)" and "The Verminators" a movie by Rick Pallet and Randy Anderson

set up a ground blind on a known deer trail. The dogs will follow it even when not stalking the deer. I shot one this year at 15 yards from my ground blind, while deer hunting. I picked up the .357 instead of the muzzleloader. She was that close.

Hey got my new encore i got it in a 209x50 magnum because benton shooters supply had a really big sale on them, but it will do a number on a fox too i've seen them work personally. I have to season the barel and sight it in haven't baught a scope yet have to get some money for christmas so i can afford the leupold quick detach scope mount, but i will get to hunt with it this weekend wiht open sights probably. Thats all that matters. Thanks for the replies i haven't though of a deer blind for fox it has worked for me on bobcat in the past though. You all have fun and be safe hunting, Merry Christmas!!!
