| Registered User | Shooting Prairie Dogs out West I shoot Prairie Dogs in NE on a private ranch. It's lots of fun, helps the rancher and is a beautiful place (in the sandhills). Problem 1, I live 4 hours away in Colorado. Problem 2, I have to buy a $70 small game permit as an out of state "hunter" in NE (which is a bit lame considering the PD is a non-game species) Where I live (NE Colorado), the only way to shoot them is to be designated as an "agent" of a land owner who has PD's that are causing a problem. I can't find these people with the problem. Turns out you can shoot them in Wyoming if you can find them. No license. BUT the state is tight-lipped about where they are on public land AND private land because they are trying to re-introduce the black-footed ferret in PD territory and don't want people scaring the ferrets (or shooting them for that matter) So here's the question in all of this: anyone have any ideas how I can get my name to ranchers who have PD's -- who would be willing to let a fellow who loves to shoot 'em -- well, shoot 'em? | Registered User | Sounds good, too far though. Thanks Matt, I have great PD shooting about 4 hours from here in NE on a family ranch. I would be up for trying OK though sometime, although it would be a pretty good haul from here. I like the idea of asking at a cafe, though. Ironically the week after I posted I ran into a guy fishing who has PD's on his land not far from here. I don't think it's legal to shoot 'em where he's at though -- even though he wants me to. The next time I'm in WY I'm going to take some flyers with me and see if I can't get 'em up in some cafe's and gas stations. If I manage to get into some legal shooting, I'll post here and let folks know what worked. |
