Coyote Calls

I just ordered this:

I've baited for coyotes before and bagged a few but calling seems like so much ore fun.

Has anyone used anything particular that they like and want to share the names of?

also, I smoke, therefore I cough. Should I get a cough supressor (like a silencer that you cough in)?

THEY WILL SMELL THE SMOKE NO MATTER WHAT YOU HACK A LUNG INTO.

on the cough supressor subject, i bought the cough silencer last fall. The thing is very hard to use because u have to cough into a hole that is about a half inch wide. All it is anyway is a plastic tube with plastic inserts in it and cotton balls. I created my own that works just as good and is easier to operate. Just take a toilet paper or paper towel (bigger is more effective but for packings sake, u can use the toilet paper tube) stick some laundry dryer sheets in and a bunch of cotton balls and put a single piece of tape on one end to hold it in from the blow of the cough. Leave some room for ur nouth to fit into and now u have a scent proof cough silencer. The laundry smell does not spook game by the way, i have used it within 30 yards of a deer and it did not even flinch. Another thing i would like to know is what r ur ideal conditions for coyote huntin and what are some good techniques? i have been wanting to go but never knew where to start, i have a marlin .22 that i think will do the trick, so i just need to know maybe some good tips. thanks, Good luck, shoot straight, and happy hunting

good tips are:

1) know the regs for your state. here in CA all you need is a hunting license and safe shooting land.

2) go some place where there are coyotes. In some states you can hunt at night, if you can, and you do, bring a buddy. calling pack predators at night is slightly unsafe.

3) if you can, go to a place where you KNOW they howl at night. remember to ask permission for tresspass on private land.

4) Set up someplace where your outline is broken up and your back is inaccesable or your buddy has your back. If you are using wounded game noises, other, larger predators may come to investigate.

5) blow location calls a few times. If you have two calls with different tones or two callers, blow location calls (yip yip-yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee) for a couple of minutes. See if you get any response. If you do blow another one and wait. you can then blow a few barks and then go to your wounded game call.

It;s worked for me as recently as last month. I can call them in my front yard but I cant take them there.
