4 rifles in one?

Has any one seen or had expeience with a rifle that has 4 interchangeable barrels, chambered in .22 lr, .22 mag, .17, and .17mag. the fella in the gun shop was telling me about it, but he hadn't seen one himself.

They are only new this year I think. What sort of price am I looking at for one of these, I reckon it'd be an awesome thing to have.

I know of only one rifle like that, cobbled up by a crazed dude over on RimfirCentral - a Ruger 10-22 with two barrels.
The .17HMR and .17Aguila in one barrel, with chambers and lugs at both ends. The other barrel is .22Magnum one end and .22 LR on the other.
Chief Dave claimed it worked well.

Green Mountain Barrels was supposed to make a 'switch-barrel kit' a few years back, with an adapter stub on the Marlin Model 25MN receiver, for attaching both a .17 HMR and a .22WMR barrel, depending on what you wanted to shoot.
Problem with doing all four calibers is, the regular and magnum calibers use very different magazines.
If someone else is doing this, I'd sure like to see it!

SAKO makes one, it has a special colour coded set of dials on the scope, you for arguements sake put the .22 barrel on, set the dials to the right colour and you are ( apparently ) on zero. It has a SAKO style price. Yee gods! its $ 948 USD for one barrel, or $1739 USD for all four! GAK! What they cost here doesnt bare thinking about.

Man I hate to repeat the H&R thing, but in this instance it works.
http://www.hr1871.com/firearms/index.php?cat=4&subcat=9
You can buy a 22 H&R single shot rifle. Send back the receiver to the factory using the barrel accessory program and get a 22Mag, 17HMR, and 17HM2 barrels to fit and interchange to you receiver. But it will cost ya a small sum for the extra barrels and fitting. But a ton less if you were to buy them all as seperate rifles.

Does the H&R barrel program reach across the pond to Australia? You`d need to get a permit aquire for each barrel and register each one as well ( i am pretty sure ) here..

this would be a sweet project to build,
as bolt action or a semi-auto, with a detachable mag,
not a single shot

MICK: Cleaver Firearms at Margate have the SAKO Quad .22 LR Synthetic stock for $1045. I am presuming it comes with the Bushnell `SAKO Quad` scope, I dunno mate. But by crikey they have unreal prices, that shop.. Would have to assume its only the .22 barrel that comes with it too.

They probably have a patent on the design, which is why prices won't change much for a long long time.
Companies are stupid like that. They come up with a not-so-novel solution
to a novel idea, patent it, and pray they hit it rich.
They could've sold tons more of these (and made more money) if they cut the price

nah, I meant Cleaver Firearms have unreal prices, they have big turnover and I can only come close to their prices if I use my pistol club discount at my local shop and even then its still 2 or 3 bucks over.

Apparently you don't need a different rego for each barrel, cause without the receiver it aint a gun. That's what the gun shop guy said.

Yeah, I'll tell you what, if you buy the barrels I'll get the receiver, and we can share it.
Man that's rich, especially for such a small calibre.

hmmm, I thought barrels were controlled in Oz. May have it wrong...Just check to make sure. I know a lot of countries will let you have a receiver, but without a barrel, it ain't a gun - it's the other way around here in the US.

barrels don't have serial numbers on them, so I can't see how they could, I really don't know though, However I got a new barrel for my .222 converting it to .223, I had to change the rego. maybe you would need some sort of special rego.

Mick, DONT RING OR EMAIL THE LICENCING BRANCH! ask the ssaa, Les Armitage would be the man with the answers. Those arsehats at the licencing branch keep moving the goal posts, theres laws we dont even know we are adhering to or breaking. Licencing branch quote: (2) A conversion unit is also a category A weapon.
(3) In this section-- "conversion unit" means a unit or device or barrel that is capable of being used for converting a category B weapon that is a firearm from one calibre to another calibre. make of that what you will.

I would say that means you need a rego for each barrel, meh, that is a load of bull

Mick, the goal posts move all the time, or a lot anyway. The SSAA worked in unison with the licencing branch as the SSAA are or atleast were to impliment the laws, but no one says anything anymore! There`s little co-hesion now. But the main thing is, if you have a question ask the SSAA, as if the licencing mob get too many aproaches on a particular matter, ZAP!!! they will legislate. I have made something of a study of the laws as they stand, some of them fall over themselves, some are ambiguous most are open to interpretaion. I like to know and understand a law if I am breaking it, but in this case you dont know! The only comforting part is that Const. Clutz doesnt know either for the better part, however what the ` special task forces soley to deal with weapons laws ` are to do, doesnt bear thinking about. Here`s a prediction from my crystal ball, safes will be checked in the very near future, gun shops have recently been told to lift their game, and are being checked as we speak. Bit like a health inspection, only with no bribes :P.. I HATE the term `weapons laws.. I own firearms bugger it, whats a ^%$#ing weapon? a chair leg? a frickin board with a nail in it?
