Here we are lousy with prairie dogs and coyote. Prairie dogs are great targets and as long as you have ammo…… But the coyote is a bigger challenge. Anyway I would like to know about other types of varmints, how hard are they to hunt, or how fun?

I love the prarie pooches myself. Not sure squirrels count, but I used to do that a good bit before my grandparents country home got turned into a suburban home. My dad on the other hand uses my 17HMR to shoot crows that have destroyed his yard digging up grubs. He sits in is second story office and executes them.

As far as Varmints go, (pests as we say in the UK), As a gamekeeper, i shoot many different types everyday. Squirrels still seem to be the most popular, Rats and Mink, Foxes and Rabbits. Birds we also class as pests tend to be, Pigeon,Jay,Magpie,Crow,Jackdaw,Cormorants,Herons, to name a few we have them all... p.s any way you can add signatures to your profile on this forum,

Lots of ground hogs around here. One of my dogs once chased one of them up a tree, it was rather amusing.

A mighty fine list of European varmints there, Sir. Perhaps a fitting and sporty addition to your list could be "French".....! Si vous plais? Would that be considered an off-color political slur? Heck if I care, anyway. Crows and dillos out here recently. Yeah, we have a crow season too......why?? Know of any folks who would eat one of them things? |

Why, that's quite despicable.....down rat cannibalism. See, I've spent some time observing these crows (before delivering their lead treats, of course) and I am sure they are liberals themselves, every one of 'em.

I'm moving back down south to Texas next month. I sure am gonna miss prarie dogs. I also had these little chipmunks or ground squirrels or something in my back yard that dug everything up. For a while I was using the 10/22 and some super colibri to take care of those.

No prairie dogs in Texas?! Heck come here for a visit were lousy with em. I'll even buy the .22 ammo. Even the local Walmart is surrounded by a dog patch! And I do mean surrounded. I call it Prairie Dog Emporium. It's funny to watch people drive by as they slow down to gawk at the dogs. Like their on a photo safari. Come pepole move it so I can get in the paking lot! But seriously no prairie dogs in Texas?!

Not that I've ever heard of. I use a 22-250 on them anyways. I will be getting to go feral pig hunting though. I may also look into coyotes.
