Coyotes are tough animals to kill...Wiley gets blown up, falls off a cliff, gets shot, gets creamed by boulders, and keeps coming back for more...!!!

Try this...If you can shoot thru a piece of 3/8 plywood then ,you might stand a chance of killing one with a lethal shot, but a WOUNDED animal is a lot more dangerous and it could affect a neighbor's child or pet!

even though its a varmint you have to be humane about it -- as an ethical hunter it is my responsibility to put the animal down clean and that means no suffering. So I would rethink the use of the pellet gun for a coyote why not get yourself a crossbow and take them out in a good manner

I don't think he is remember one advantage of the large and slow is sectional density -- whats a pellet weight maybe 40 grains if your lucky

I am not much on killing or hurting animals I've got two cats and three dogs that I treat as though they were my kids.

Wild animals have an uncanny way of the bleeding stopping after a non-lethal hit...a .17 cal. pellet just will not open a large enough wound channel or cause enough Shock to a wild animal to be effective. That is my opinion from seeing Dogs shot with pellet rifles,.22's, and seeing Coyotes take several hits from .22 stingers in the heart/lung area and they run off maybe to live , maybe to die... Muzzle energy with a pellet is only 80 lbs. and will fall off drastically at a range safe for you to shoot em. Its all about the energy!

I know of kids shot in the eye with a pellet rifle...didn't kill em...just blinded em. Lots of people have survived shots to the head. even that guy that shot himself with a nail gun and put one in his brain survived...If you dont cause a massive explosion inside the skull of an animal with a bullet that has energy, I'm saying the odds for a clean kill are very low especially with a wild animal !

coyote will not come within 10 feet they are alert and always looking for a possible threat. I have hunted my share of these animals and one thing is that you have to hit them hard and do damage

well the question was "would an 1800 fps pellet gun kill a yote?", and while a lucky shot may do it, i think that the answer would be no. i really believe your setting yourself up for dissapointment. shaun has a good point on the ethical killing deal. and i believe that moose is correct about the 177 cal pellet not making enough damage to get the job done. and yeah at 1800 fps i still believe this.

Ok, let me put it this way, you evidently have Neighbors, restrictions of some sort ,or you are in a city where you can't use something a little more powerful or loud. So, IF YOU WOUND an animal and it goes over to your neighbors house and their Child gets bitten that's playing in the yard,YOU are responsible and they can SUE the Shorts off of you for negligence, etc. Is it worth the Risk ??? Have you considered Traps, Snares, or calling animal control ??? By the way, Animals can heal without medical attention cause they live Wild and the Strong survive, and That's what makes em tough, the point was that a head shot without sufficient energy is NON-Lethal !

try looking at a crossbow effective ranges are out to 65 yards like a rifle and you will get good kills silently.

Is it one Coyote or a Pack ???
How Close are the neighbors ?
Are there dogs and cats loose in the Neighborhood?
Are you in city limits ?
If you fired ONE round, would the Neighbors call the cops?
What time of night are they coming into your yard ?

Answers to these questions may give us a direction to look at !
