| Mounting BSA Contender
Hey all, Just got myself a BSA Contender 8-32x50 and was wondering what rings you would be using? Currently i have a one piece rem plate with low leupold mounts on top of it. With the 50mm would i have to look at either meduim or high mounts for it? Also does anyone out there use this scope for long range varmints? Also what range is this scope effective too? Cheers Dave Last edited by dave; 07-04-2006 at 10:38 PM. |

my opinion of BSA is very low. but if your going to mount it, i would take a look at burris signature series rings. if you want to do long range shooting with a hi powered scope, you need to spend some pretty good money.

Are they that bad are they? Ive never used one before, thought i might give it a go. Got it at a reasonable price but then again maybe theres a reason behind that.

well, with optics you definately get what you pay for. you've already got it, so give it a try. my guess is that after about 10-12X is going to start getting fuzzy, especially out in the sun. i recently got back from prairie dog hunting, and we were doing some pretty long range shooting. after looking through every scope out there, the guys that had the high end leupolds, and nightforces were much happier with their scopes than the rest of us.

Yeah i was thinking that, i basically got it for its high magnification to see what difference it made compared to the others i have (tascos/leupolds) but as its on the cheap i it may not be as good as say the few 4-12's i have then anyway..............oh well i can always turn it right down and leave it on the .22lr......would look quite funny having a scope that was almost as long as the barrel |

I've always heard, that if you're not paying atleast 3/4 of what you paid on your rifle, forget that glass. Now that's from the older, extremly expreienced hunters. I would say 3/4 on a new scope, and 1/2 on a used Leupold. I will NEVER get anything other than Leupolds. Why, I don't know. But If you want a good scope for a long range varminter, the Leupold Mark IV series cannot do you wrong.
