I have heard people talking about a Gound Hog Hunting Slide Whistle. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know where I can get one? :flame: |

Groundhog whistles sound like a woman who is wailing in love and cannot get her lover's attention. Now if you can duplicate that sound you've got it made.

Oxford I can't believe no one jumped on your comment. It was quite good. But back to the question. I believe groundhogs have been known to be called "Whistle Pigs" in some locals. We used to hunt them along the Mississippi river bluffs with pistols and refer to them as "Cliff Pigs". Never tried an actual whistle nor have I seen such a device although I will say this, I laid a new tarp down over my wood pile and a groundhog got underneath it and went wild running and tearing it up (got claustrophobic?). When he got out I was waiting with the .22 pistol and had to whistle to get him to stand up and get a clear shot. It worked quite slick.

I used to hunt wood chuck a lot growing up in northeast Pennsylvania. A good whistle through the teeth or otherwise was always a staple tool. Just like Prairie Dogs they are curious animals and they seem to wonder what the whistling is all about.
