1st time calling in coyote

Was deer hunting this week by walking and sitting. Could hear coyotes on top of ridge. Soon, they where comming down draw in my general direction. Hoofed it from watching a good well traveled trail over to a slight ridge at intersection of two ranch roads above the draw. Sat behind a sapling cedar tree to break-up my siloette. Was excited and winded breathing heavily. Finally finding the wounded rabbit mouth call in the hunt bag. Gave a what-the-heck-was-that-too-high screechy call followed by two weaker calls. I'm thinking, those coyotes know the difference in half-assed attempt. Calmed down. Tried two more times. Still the calls weren't what they should be.
Wait!
An animal running behind me.
Turned to look.
Grey fox!
Cool!
It got sight of me and split lickityquick.
Next a coyote ran into view. A beautif animal. Pretty winter coat. He kept nerveously pacing back-n-forth. I had to whistle tree times for him(asuming) to stand still. Ah crap! The scope is set on 7power. Dang coyote blended in with the moring sun on the dry grass. Coyote is about 15 yards away. Found him in scope and shot. The 30-06 rang out echoing thru the countryside. Was expecting to see the animal dead. Instead it was or looked liked it was chasing it's tail causing a whilwind, like a freekin Tasmanian Devil. Got another shot off. Went to look for it. No sign of it. No blood anywhere. Hmm?
Anyway, it was the first one I was able to call in.

Aim right at the top of their back when using a scope at real short range, the bore is at least 1 1/2" under the sight line.

Yote's instinctively start biting at whatever's causing their discomfort. Too bad its a bullet hole! Bye bye Mr. coyote! I've seen them run off a good ways with a terminal wound. Good job on your first! Is that not the most exciting hunt this side of Africa? Keep up the good work, Killer!

Yes a good hunt this side of Africa.
Tried calling yotes in Halletsville at my lease. I think their call wise.
The winter coats of coyotes are beatuiful. Would love to have a or buy a coyote fur coat for She-bear, "the war lord" alias, Miss Pat.
I can see how this can be habit forming.
