| Ready to go
First off,hi everyone.I am a new member, and really like the forums.Good job.Just picked up my first varmint gun today, and am ready to start. My friends and i are bowhunters for the most part,my dad has always been big on groundhogs.I have always liked high powered rifles, and have done some grounhog hunting with the old timer(dad). With the growing number of yotes here in Maryland, i am dying to get my feet wet.My set up is a Ruger MK77 markII target grey target in 22-250 with a nikon buckmaster 6-18X40.I bought 2 boxes of federal V shock 55gr. gameking boattail HP. I Will be reloading ,just wanted the brass and shoot a couple rounds to get used to the gun. What bullet wait do you recomend for yotes,as this will be my main target.Any advice is greatly welcomed. Thanx.

Sounds like you have a good set-up. The 55's should work good on coyote, I use a 50 in my 223. Just make sure your gun shoots them good and you are set.

Yeah you made a great choice, i have the same gun in .223. I would suggest that you have the trigger worked on. They arent the best out of the box, but other than that its one of my favorites. Make sure and break in the barrel, clean it before you shoot it, and then clean it after every 3 or 4 shots for the first 50 rounds or so. Some say its not necessary but they are fools.

I prefer heavier bullets on yote, so I use a 1/8 twist barrell on my AR15. It loves 75 grainers. Whats your twist rate?

mine is a 1/12 RH twist,so i am assuming it is better for the lighter bullets Jw,thanx for the advice.not to sound dumb, when you say to clean the bore after every 3 shots do you mean fully clean it, or just run a brush through it dry? My muzzle loader manual says to run a brush through it every 3 shots.Thats why i ask Last edited by SilentHunter; 03-13-2007 at 12:32 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Yeah the easiest way is to get yourself a bore snake and some foaming bore cleaner. If you dont know about the Bore snakes check out your local outdoors store and they will have them. Just use a spray in bore scrub, and then run the "snake" through it. Takes like 10 seconds and they work better than any cleaning kit ive ever had. I think it may be my favorite invention to date.

You got that right. I've got one for every caliber I own. Dont know if it works as well as the old fashioned way, but it sure is fast and easy!

Cool, ive seen them.I didnt know how well they worked.I will purchase one friday. Well i had to call Bass Pro Shops tody.I had them mount and boresight the scope. The rifle wouldnt fit back in the box of coarse(i brought an empty gun case)so the guy said he could throw it away. Then reading the manual, the gun comes with a rubber coated padlock, and they didnt give it to me.Called them and the guy tried to tell me that they dont come with a lock just a plastic trigger lock. Then after convincing him, when the manual says"lock with the supplied padlock" that means it is included. He then tells me he would mail me a masterlock.I asked him if it was rubber coated ,he said no,why.I said the one they give you is rubber coated because it goes through the reciever, and it wont scratch the crap out of your gun.He tells me to call ruger and tell them i didnt get one with the rifle.WOW,sorry, just a little steamy

If you have kids, keep the bolt in a different location. Its easy to hide.

oh yeah.just cant forget it.I say that humbly. I have a remington shotgun that has the little tool that locks the safety button. Went huntin with my buddy last year, loaded the gun and when it was time to shoot i couldnt push the safety. It was locked and i left the little tool home.lol not funny at the time.

Yeah my buddy just got a gun with a padlock not a trigger lock. All my previous guns had the old trigger lock but maybe they are beginning to go with the padlock.

Trigger locks dont take long to crack...as long as it takes to wheel the numbers 999 times, at most. Those cheap Ruger locks would only work in my house if I watched it 24/7.
