| 223wssm?
Just got off of brownings website and they are praising this cal. Probably because they are one of few to chamber this round.Anybody have any experience with this cal?Thought it might make a nice backup

The super short is cool for a couple reasons. Most important is the powder burn. With the cartridge being shorter the powder is closer to the ignition of the primer and the powder burn is faster and more consistent. This means better velocity and more consistent groups. Now i shoot a "old school" .223 and it shoots 1/4" groups at 200 yards. So in my opinion its really just making something great, a little better. Hey what do you mean by "backup"?

Go with a 22-250. Similar range numbers, more available and cheaper.

I would then reccomend a 223 or 243. Or another 22-250, you could share ammo and stuff. Might be convienent.

I think the .223 wssm is a great little varmint-target round.I have shot them in AR type and bolt action and they are highly accurate and rank close to the .22-250.The problem I thought of was on the AR type they were using a 1in8 twist which might mean shorter barrel life. Also I wonder how hard it will be to even get casings much less loaded ammo. samuel.

A 1/8 twist means it will stabilize heavier bullets. I was going to buy a .22-250 when I took up varmint hunting, but after some homework bought the .243 SS. It shoots the 55 gr. at 4000fps, and the 100gr around 3200. I use it not only for varmints, but deer and hogs too. at4rxj: After shooting the 100 grainers for awhile I found it works really well. I was concerned at first, especially when the bolt didnt want to open after shots, but Browning fixed it.

Yeah its hard to not go with the .223 rem if you want cheap. Its the only caliber that i can even consider cheap. Thats at 28$ a box for Black Hills (50).

I went with a Winchester Model 70 223 WSSM. Great gun, great accuracy. CDNN has them for 399.99-449.99 depending on stock and finish(but where else can tou get a stainless, heavy barrel, laminate stock for 449.99). Shoots awesome. Ammo not to bad price. CDNN also had it fo 14.99 a box. Only problem that i have found with this round is that it usually leave no exit wound, as it does not exit at all most of the time.
