trigger for a M70

Hey everyone. I new here, and cant wait to spend some quality time on here talking varmints.
I just bought a new rifle..a Winchester M70 Coyote in a .223 WSSM. I've heard great things about the gun and the accuracy. But the trigger worries me a little. It comes from the factor at a hefty 7.2 pounds. Just wondering if anyone has had one, and if so did you have to do a trigger job on it? Does anyone have any good info on after market triggers for the M70's?

I advise going to or sending it to a qualified gunsmith. The advice you may get on here could be exelent or lead you to damage a good gun.Love that .223WSSM. sam.

When I had my M70, I remember the trigger pull was horrible. It could have easily been near 10 pounds...

I read something about cutting a spring to reduce the pull, but I never dared to do it myself. I would probably take Samuel's advice and go to a gunsmith. I'm sure there is something that can be done. There are tons of these rifles out there.

You could install something like that, or have a gunsmith do so if you don't feel confident.

do some research, adjusting the model 70 trigger is easy and straight forward, once you clean the epoxy off of the 2 nuts. the factory trigger is easily, and safely adjusted down to 3#.

Take a look at the Rifle Basic triggers. If you want a really light but safe trigger these are the way to go. I put a Varmint model on a 700 and it's set at 1 lb. It passes all the tests for safety with no exceptions. It was rated as 8oz to 1.5 lb. When I mounted it it was 8oz on the nose. I set it to 1 lb and tested it with my scale and it never varied more than +/- 1oz. A Timinny can't go that light safely.
