When I was doing wildlife rehab, we had (still have) one at the center. Someone got it when it was a pup and kept it as a pet. Coyotes will tame down and then can't be released. This one was probably 35-40#, and really friendly. Liked to play fetch and always wanted its head petted. They kept her as a teaching animal because there were always kids coming from schools on tours of the center. Any wild animal can be treated for mange, like squirrels and such, but I don't know who would go to the effort for a coyote.

I have a large pack living somewhere around my house and always hear them yipping and howling after dark. Keep telling the husband to get out his varmint caller and get rid of some and I carry the pistol when I let my two rat terriers out.

That's too funny.

That's why I carry a gun when I let them out, and I go out and stand in the yard and let them back in. The coyotes have always run when I see them. They'll even shut up when you yell at them. Husband has one of those electronic CD callers with the speaker with the long cord. Might have to give it a try myself.

I don't believe i have seen any alive but the dead ones I have seen along the roadside look to be between 50 and 60 pounds. They also have a silver/blueish colored back.

I thought I saw one in Ohio a couple years back, it was probably 30lb give or take, but it looked much less wolf like and more like a shabby fox. Maybe it was just a shabby fox.

I wanted to put my son out in one of those things you hang in a door way, and they can jump up and down, to call for coyotes. I had to find some use for all that hollering he was doing. Of course the wife is a yuppie, and said no. I mean it wasn't like I am a bad shot, nothing would have reached him.

I'm no expert but to my knowledge there was no such thing as a Canadian Timber Coyote. Anyway, it looks alot like a Timber Wolf. Of course, this pic looks way old and maybe yotes back then came in larger sizes.

Normally they are about 35-45 lbs here but in a few cases have seen some in 50 lb range.

I'm about 50mi. South of Chicago in Manhattan IL. Was out rabbit hunting this morning and jumped one that looked like a Shepard. Found tracks up in the back yard too, pretty close to the house. They tried taking my Lab/Shepard mix one night. One of them was in front of him coaxing him out in the field and 2 were circling around behind him by the time I got out there. I'm thinkin about 30 seconds he would've been a samich........

I havent been here in TN. a friend from work has 100 acres about 20 minutes from the Kentucky line. He says the property is littered with coyotes and feral hog. I wasant able to go for Deer season but we are planing for coyote and feral hog since they are year round. He claims 35 to 50 lbs. but we will see. I've been trying to find some place to sell the pelts. Hate killing a animal and leaving it on the ground.

Not sure exactly how much the yotes weigh up here but I left the house at 430am a couple months back and right there in downtown Milwaukee was one of the biggest coyotes I have ever seen. I stopped and looked at him to make sure of what I was looking at. No mistake. A yote. I yelled and he slowly ambled back the way he had come from. I am sure some of it was fur but I have never seen a full blood yote that big before and I have killed a lot of 'em down in South Texas.

I understand the desire not to waste. But with as much damage to livestock and rancher's lives that I have seen coyotes do not to mention the number of pets I have known to fall into their grasp I do not mind helping control the population.

My blood runs cold every time I think about a coyote.

I understand what your saying. But I just moved up hear a year or so now and lived in Miami all my life and never seen a coyote accept in the zoo, so its all knew to me. But I cant wait to put my survivor 308 to work coyote or feral hog dont make much differance at point in time. Paper is getting old and gallon jugs full of water are losing their novelty. But I do understand your post and point.

We have lots of them here in Ohio. I have seen many while hunting and recently saw one eating my neighbor's trash. The trash eater was big - 50 lbs - the rest have been average. I have seen many along the turnpike. Now I know what happens to the roadkill. I even had them chase a deer a buddy arrowed.
