"Blue Laws" vary from state to state

These laws are a hangover from the colonial period, back when the Puritans ran the societal circus and the only things you did on Sunday were tend the stock, eat, and go to church and be harangued from the pulpit by the local pastor for three or four hours on how humanity was evil and everybody who didn't follow the Word of God was going to hell. In New England and New York, the Blue Laws weren't finally taken off the books until the late 1970s and early 1980s to allow merchants other than folks like restaurants and gas stations to open on Sunday. Even now, though, in places like New Hampshire and Connecticut liquor stores are not open on Sunday, and you can't buy beer in the supermarket before 12 noon.

As there are Christian evangelicals down South who are much more public about their religion and how it helps them live their lives, it does not surprise me that hunting is not allowed on the Sabbath in some places. It is the same religious outlook that created the Blue Laws three centuries ago in New England. I understand the mindset, without agreeing with it; but then I'm much more a Deist after the style of Washington and Jefferson than I am a Christian evangelical.

My neighbor is a Lt with DNR and he said that they are looking into letting people hunt on Sundays and also being able to hunt yotes at night here in NC.

follow up

Renegadedeputy: Sir; wouldn't it be great.
I have in the past enjoyed moseying about out there. We did some coon hunting and down about Wallace chased a few deer. Those Pocosin bays are something the rest of the world wouldn't understand.
n.c. hunter is correct with "no NC hunting" on Sundays. Creatures day of rest.

Renegadedeputy; follow up with who we need to grumble to. Since "what his name retired" I haven't a contact. Maybe 'Charles T Fulwood" unsure. We hunted with his group at Burgaw.
