i will actually agree to that(being comfortable with the gun). we all know this was about helping the original poster pick a caliber, and it was exactly that until you started in on your little tantrum.

Can you tell me how the 22-250 is better then the .243? Don't say just because, give me solid evidence. Look at the ballistics that I posted. The .243 almost keeps up with velocities, and definitely has higher velocities beyond 500 yards, yet fires a bullet that weighs almost twice as much. The .243 is also known to produce 6" groups at 1000 yards with the proper rifle. What am I missing here? | |

I was going to reply to the original thread makers post but got a bit side tracked hahahhaha.I am an aussie and have a fair idea of what you are looking for. Both the 223 and 25/06 are a top calibres. The 243 and 22/250 are also popular calibres here.By far the most popular over here for the purposes you describe are the 223,22/250 and 243.The 25/06 is also very usefull for your needs but i would probably go for the 223.The deciding factor is going to be if you run factory ammo or handload.I will now say i dont own a 223 or 243.I have a 222 and a 22/250 which most of my shooting during night hours is done with 222.Not because its anymore or less accurate than the 22/250,but its more economical to burn 100 rounds in a night. All my ammo is handloaded. The 25/06 is an awesome calibre but will cost you more to shoot. And i know how many rounds can be used in a night/day.For my money if starting out and looking for a rifle i would probably get a 223 for economy, but for a bit more grunt it would be a 22/250.I have nothing against the 243,just never had a need for one.I have enough different calibres to not need to overlap.Maybe you should consider a couple of different options.Like a 17HMR for bunnies and foxes, and a 243 or 25/06 or even a 6.5x55 for the bigger stuff.Hope this helps mate.
