| Senior Member | Bait hunting them might work. This is a link you could get some info about bait hunting. Bunker bait hunting I rarely take my hand or electronic callers out anymore and prefer bait hunting.

| you might want to add a visual and scent attractant to your kit, many moons ago I used to tie a 2"X 12" strip of dull red flannel onto a light brush limb and scattered ripe chicken backs around the visual bait and go to my blind about 150 or so yds away and wait to see when the lil yodelers would wander in... Worked for me then might work for you as well

| I've heard you could take your wife. When you get out there and get to yapping, telling each other which is the smartest and knows the most about shooting the yotes will hear all of the yapping and come right in,thinking it is their family.I never tried it but maybe you could. It might work. sam. |

| The best locator call I have found is a recording of a Fire engine siren. weird I know but it works.

| Please read . . . . I was born and raised in the desert oil fields of West Texas where we heard coyotes running and singing almost every night. A coyote is not a dog in the sense most people experience dogs. They are much more intelligent, have phenominal hearing, smell, and taste, and are truly "attuned" to their environment. This is why most calls and recordings rarely, if ever, work. Many people hunt coyotes but few have success (although you would not know this from bragging and gun magazines). It is not a walk in the woods to hunt coyotes. It can be done but realize it takes a lot of time, energy, and development of expertise to be good at it. |

| Nathangdad:You sure take in a lot of territory when you make the statement that"most"calls and recordings dont work.Couldnt you have stated they dont work for you?I seldom ever got them to work while sitting in a bar lying about most anything,or sitting at home watching tv or such.We called 56 in this year,52 keepers and 4 with mange.we also got 9 fox. We also trapped 5 fox and 14 yotes. The calls have worked any place I have used them for years including in west Texas when I worked down there.I have watched them call yotes on tv with a high rate of sucess.I didnt have the training tapes they have today but I believe anyone can learn to call if they really want to.Some people that hang around their computers and write that calling doesnt work and recoil from a handgun does permanint damage should try and get out in the field and maybe something might work for them.Try to do what you say wont work.Maybe it will, but not in your house. sam. |

To samuel Your unbelievable man first you started an argument with me and now your running your mouth to him why do you want to find trouble all the time just back and leave him alone. And go ahead and bragg cause nobody cares They told me to watch what I was saying to the senior members. Fine. But who is going to watch you. Last edited by slaughterhouse; 01-30-2008 at 10:15 PM. | I've had good success over the years calling a variety of critters in with calls of various types and I too found nathangdad's statement lacking either credibility or a lack of skill will the calls he has used in either event I disagree with his statement that "Calling rarely if ever works with Coyotes" His statements about the coyotes attributes are correct in that they can be (if under regular hunting pressure) extremely hard to take, However the coyotes greatest asset to survival is also what makes calling effective for those who really know how it's done and that is a Coyote's inate curiosity the animal simply cannot resist checking something out that interests him. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it also often kills the coyote!

| I often use other calls than distress, such as deer rattles, crow call, duck and goose calls, puppys playing, and yotes check it out,I believe out of curiosity.I used to,and at times still do go out with no firearm and my only intention is to see what works to bring them in.I do a lot more scouting, looking at scat and for tracks than actual hunting. When I do go after them,I know what will bring them in and the best spot to be in. sam. |
