Post henry 22 magnum

Hey yall, I am looking at buying a Henry lever action .22 magnum in the near future. And I was wondering what you think about the gun. Also I was wondering what would be the best choice of ammo for coyotes out to about 50-75 yards. Ohh yeah, do yall know of any good scopes for a .22 magnum, Again what about those grey foxes, how would this gun do on some fox at 50-75 yards. Thanks.

Fantastic gun - poor caliber for coyotes

Henry has a reputation for very high and very consistent quality in their product line. I would never hesitate for one moment wondering if it was a good purchase decision.

As someone who grew up in the West Texas desert oil fields listening to coyotes "singing" almost every night I would not recommend a .22 magnum cartridge as I feel it underpowered for this game.
I would feel more comfortable with a .223 or .243 in a very accurate rifle.

Note: Coyotes are not dogs in the sense most people experience dogs. They are superior in intelligence and they are phenominally "attuned" to their environment. This is why calls and recordings do not achieve the results most purchasers expect. Good luck but do realize coyote hunting is not going to be an easy outing in the woods or desert.

Yep, those 'songdogs' are canny! Down here, it's near impossible to get close enough for a rimfire of any type.
Go with the .223!
An NEF Handi Rifle in .223 would be about the same price range as the Henry.

Lefty o Just drop it. If he does not mind wounding an animal let him do it.

n.c. hunter keep rimfire to squirrels and rabbits. It is not suited for coyotes!

I personaly would buy a cenerfire caliber for coyotes. An alert wild animal like a Coyote is probably going to run off and die or be mamed for the rest of it's life.
Of course you do get lucky.
Look at it this way NC I've tied you up and sat you 60 yards from me because I intend to take your life.
You know it's going to happen and I give you a choice of the Marlin 22 rifle or the centerfire rifle in 243, which one would you choose for me to kill you with.

I would think you would want me to pick the centerfire rifle...If your normal.

For the record this is not a threat but only an illustration to make a point.
God forbid that I become so mentely sick to do something like this.

A .22 IS NOT POWERFULL ENOUGH TO KILL A YOTE WITH. AND I DONT CARE WHAT YOUR FAMILY SAY'S. IF YOU DONT WANT TO TAKE OUR ADVICE ON SOMETHING THEN DON'T ASK IT. YOU CAN SHOOT A YOTE WITH A.22 BUT WHY MAKE IT SUFFER. IT'S THOUGHTLESS PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT GIVE HUNTERS BAD NAMES.

well boy, you've been told over and over by seasoned hunters that it is a poor choice for coyote sized animals. i hope you feel guilty as hell when you wound one, because you have been warned. i HATE unethical hunters!

Guys guys please, I understand that a .22 magnum is too small for yotes. I was just seeing if you had any stories on hunting one with it. I have never hunted a yote with a .22 magnum and I am not going to.

no, you dont really seem to get the fact that rimfires are unsuitable for coyotes. you have asked numerous times, and been given the same answer from many different people over and over again, yet you persist in wanting to hunt coyotes with a rimfire. hopefully you can understand where we are coming from. repeated asking of the same question, resulting in the same answers= being dense.
