| Hey guys, As I said I am buying a Henry lever action .22 magnum next month and I was wondering what ammo would work for red fox aat about 50-75 yards. Well I found som RWS .22 magnum bullets that is a 40 grain full metal jacket bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2020 f.p.s and a muzzle energy of 360 lbs.! Thats alot of power coming from a .22 magnum. How do you guys think this would do on red foxes or grey foxes at that range. ps. here is a website link to the RWS Magnum Rimfire Rifle Ammunition 2133083, 22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, Full Metal Jacket, 40 GR,

| bunch nc. hunter: Sir; a man after my own heart. Investigating, exploring, researching. Sir; good deal. And that bullet JUMPS 2040fps. Yahoo 350fps yahoo. Mister fox, coyote will have a bad bad day IF YOU make the shot. Earlier I mentioned about shooting 'golf' balls out at 50yds 75yds. Sir; the bullet you have picked is good. The range? maybe a little shorter than 75yds; [bullet will handle the range] can you reliably hit the 'golf' ball. Hitting the 'golf' ball; is about the responsible target size. Consider base of 'ear' shot. Look at a regular dog. base of ear coyote is down. Sir; I feel a sense of responsibility to the hunted game. Wounding, injuring, just isn't responsible. Letting any animal suffer, not good. continue exploring and keep us informed. Thanks a bunch

| Hey NC please keep me posted on the results, I have a new marlin 22 mag I haven't shot but maybe 10 times and I don't even know what brands of ammo are available. All I see around here is Winchester fmj or hollow points. I bought a 22 rifle identical to it to and it looks like a keeper. I put a cheap Simmons 8 point 3 X 9 40mm scope on it but I don't have the 22 mag rigged out yet. I'll be looking for some quality ammo too...A.H EDIT...I had an older 22 mag I traded for for this newer and better one, I hope. I do know you don't want to shoot Hollow Points to harvest squirrels. I shot a rabbit in a head at about 50 yards one time with a 22 mag hollow point and when I got to him half his head was gone. was very nasty...A.H Last edited by ArkansasHunter; 01-27-2008 at 08:55 PM. |

| revisited nc. hunter. Sir; I just read your other thread. Man are they all over you. Physic's: a form of math. bullet traveling @ 1600-2000fps 300-400fpe will penetrate sufficiently for my shot. Sir; refer to my golf ball. Heart lung is a tough shot at that distance; because it is hard to see. The Ear is one spot that you can see. If you cannot see the EAR; you do not have a shot. It is not unusual for Deer hunter to make a heart lung shot and said deer moves out of the county on pure adrenalin. Many of our "best shots" leave a wounded animal. Does that mean "not enough gun" or is our shot not exact. Sir; practice responsible, practice with the intention of 1 shot 1 kill. In the EAR down goes said dog.

| The 22 mag will do the job, if you do yours, will you be putting a scope on the gun? I had a nice winchester in 22 mag, but when I mounted a scope on the gun, I could never shoot it comfortably. Just curious, is the henry you are buying, one of the ones that you can get the engraved replacement side plate for? I am thinking of getting one for each of my kids, though think I will opt for a 17hmr for one of the guns, and the 22 mag for the other. |
