If ya use the right bullet, it's no worse than a .22-250 or .223

A heavy bullet in a .243win. works great usually very consistant with minimal pelt damage..22cals and the .20cal. have very frangible bullets that usually dont exit.My favorite is the Hornady 40gr VMAX.Lately I have been using them in a .22 hornet,out to 150yds.Beyond that they dont have power to expand properly.I use them in anything .22cal..I have been using the .204 for longer range and to me it equals the .22-250 and so far few have exited even at 400yds.But when they do,there is a big hole to sew up. sam.

I would use which ever one I had. If I had both then I would opt for the 243. Just my preference. Both are fine cartridges and work very well. Heavier bullet in the 243 will buck the wind better. But then again. I watched a buddy of mine hit a jackrabbit in the head at over 300 yards with a 220 swift.

I grew up in the West Texas desert oilfields where we heard coyotes singing almost every night. From observing success and failures I recommend the .243 Winchester.

For me it pretty much depends on the conditions. Around here wind is the main factor, but hunting style comes into play also.
If I'm expecting rather short shots, 200yds and under, I use a 218 Bee with 40gr. NBT's.
Otherwise, the 220 Swift with 50's out to the 4-500 yd range..
For beyond that, I use a 6mmAI loaded with 55's.

.264WM with either a 100 grain, or 85 grain, back when I did that kind of hunting. I was not into collecting pelts...

I used to use a .220 Swift on the lil critters, but since I don't hunt or trade fur anymore I no longer have that rifle. Nor my .243 thanks to the ex-spousal unit!

E5B, A shooting friend of mine has been helping me see the merits of a 204 for varmints and predators like coyote.

Aside from reloading my own rounds, availability of 204 ammo on the market isn't very abundant.

Here is a pic of proof that i'm sure sam and nathangdad has seen many times using that .243 This guy had me up to many times late at night last fall around the end of September. So he got put to sleep early one morning.

Got a chance to see your humble abode in the mountains there, my kind of past time.
Looks like you fellers have a good time with plenty of fish and game. We have to skip on down the road a piece to fish, about a mile but no fish in that stream like yaal have. We sometimes get out and about up lake erie way to get them thar steelheads. My farmer neighbor shot its other brother the next week, i guess it was keeping him up also, I called this one in with one of those wooden wounded rabbit calls and he came in carrying the mail fast as rip about 160 yards stopped and was waiting to locate the next call.
